The Tyrconnell Irish Whiskey 10 Year Sherry Cask Finish is like getting the best of both worlds.

The Tyrconnell Distillery was originally owned by the Watt family in Ireland, dating all the way back to 1762. In 1876, the family entered a horse — a chestnut colt — in the classic Irish horse race called "The National Produce Stakes." No one thought that the young horse would win, and the bookmakers took action at 100-to-1 odds. Well, the little horse won, and that horse’s name was Tyrconnell.

The Watt family promptly dedicated a new brand of classic Irish Whiskey in the name of the colt, and it has been a best-seller ever since. The dark days of Prohibition shuttered the stills for a while, but the Kilbeggan Distilling Company dusted-off the copper and cranked things up to full production again. Their line of Irish Whiskey is now the fastest-growing brand in Ireland. Cheers!

We think that The Tyrconnell Irish Whiskey 10 Year Sherry Cask Finish is their best yet. At 10YO, it is smooth as silk. And that little bit of extra finishing in Sherry casks is spot on — adding just enough sweetness and richness to balance the savory and spice.

I hope that the good folks at Tyrconnell take this the right way, but we like to think of The Tyrconnell Irish Whiskey 10 Year Sherry Cask Finish as the perfect Irish Whiskey for the Scotch-lover. It is a Single Malt, and it it has the lightness and tingly citrus notes of a Highlander, but it is double-pot-distilled in the classic Irish style. So it really is like getting the best of both worlds.

* The Tyrconnell has recently changed their labels, and as the original labels are being phased out, there is still a chance that you might receive a bottle different than what is pictured. But rest assured, the liquid remains the same, regardless of the label.
