Possibly the highest rated Irish Whiskey.

Situated in the picturesque foothills of the Cooley Mountains of Co. Louth, Cooley Distillery is owned by the Kilbeggan Distilling Company. This distillery produces Kilbeggan and Tyrconnell Whiskey as well as the most recent brand Connemara Peated. The Kilbeggan brand itself is based in the Kilbeggan Distillery, found along the banks of the River Brosna. This is the oldest distillery in Ireland, dating back to 1757, and still produces Whiskey with its long heritage in mind.

This Tyrconnell 10 Year Old is finished in Madeira casks and comes with a rating of 95 points from Whiskey legend Jim Murray. The Whiskey is bursting with flavor. Beginning with a nose stuffed full of citrus fruits and the undertones of dull malted qualities this dram starts as it means to go on. The citrus fruits take over on the palate and are a perfect complement to the saccharine sweetness that is also present. This sweetness adds a creamy quality to the dram that is highlighted against its malty background. The long heritage of the Cooley Distillery is not to be missed in this Tyrconnell, with the obvious smoothness that is classic to most Irish Whiskies.

The Harp is the official emblem of Ireland, not the shamrock. The reason for shamrock’s fame is Saint Patrick.
Irish Whiskey has many varieties: grain Whiskey, malted barley pot-still-distilled, and ‘pure pot-still’ (or ‘single pot still’ as it is now officially known). Then there is Poitin, one of the first Spirits ever made.

Irish Coffee recipe: 1 cup freshly brewed strong coffee, 1 tablespoon brown sugar, 3-4 tablespoons Irish Whiskey, heavy cream - slightly whipped.
Poteen is a Whiskey made from potatoes, or in other words: it's Irish Vodka.
All Whiskey from Cooley matures in ex-Bourbon casks, other than their special finished Whiskeys like Tyrconnell Port, or their Madeira, or Sherry finishes, like the new Connemara Single Malt Sherry Finish.
