A beautifully-aged Irish Single Malt with a surprising exotic fruit flavor profile.

The Tyrconnell was originally owned by the Watt family in Ireland, dating all the way back to 1762. In 1876 the family entered a horse โ€” a chestnut colt named Tyrconnell โ€” in the classic Irish horse rase "The National Produce Stakes." No one thought that the young horse would win, but he didโ€ฆ at 100-to-1 odds. The Watt family promptly dedicated a new brand of classic Irish Whisky to the young colt. The dark days of Prohibition shuttered the stills for a while, but the Cooley Distillery โ€” a division of Beam-Suntory โ€” has revitalized the brand wonderfully.

The Tyrconnell 16 Year Old Single Malt Irish Whiskey is a simply beautiful dram. The Cooley Distillery has unique copper pot still that have small pots and long necks the maximize copper contact slowly. And while some Irish Whiskies are triple distilled, this Tryconnell is distilled twice. So, a lot of the malt character comes through under a delicate aroma of surprising exotic fruits bottled at a perfect 46% ABV.
