T. W. Samuels was a third-generation distiller and High Sheriff of Nelson County Kentucky in the mid-1800s. He is famous for persuading confederate soldiers to surrender at the end of the American Civil War — including his nephews Frank and Jess James. 

The Whiskey named in his honor from Heaven Hill is a fairly low-priced straight Bourbon Whiskey at 40% ABV, made at the Heaven Hill facility to the normal specifications.
