A toast to those late nights that end at a diner in the city that never sleeps. Could it get any more New York than this?

The story of the first new Whiskey distillery in New York since the Prohibition is a mix of chance and determination. In 2001, Ralph Erenzo purchased a property upstate to build a climber’s ranch where tourists could practice rock climbing on the nearby cliffs. Since the neighbors were not great fans of this idea, making it clear in a not-so-neighborly way and since similarly like family, you can’t choose your neighbors, but you can choose your actions, Erenzo changed his plan. He looked around, saw grain-producing family farms, a mill and water from a limestone aquifer and decided it was about time New York got a new craft Whiskey distillery. (This was 2003, mind you, before every US neighborhood had its own craft distiller.) A couple of law amendments and some trial and error later, Hudson Whiskey is famous for embodying the New York boldness. William Grant & Sons probably agrees, since it acquired the company in 2010.

Hudson Whiskey NY Short Stack is distilled from hearty New York rye. First matured in American oak barrels and finished in ex-Vermont maple syrup barrels, you can imagine this is no ordinary Rye Whiskey. Bottled at the perfect 46% ABV, the bold rye spice, typical of Hudson Whiskey, is beautifully rounded by the smooth, maple sweetness. This is an reimagination of an expression, formerly known as Hudson Maple Cask, and it is one of Hudson's core releases. They're also calling it their blue plate special. Well, we know what we’re ordering on our next night on the town.

In 1788, Selah Tuthill built one of the first gristmills in the area to render local grains into flour. The Tuthilltown Gristmill was the longest continuously operating gristmill in New York State history. In 1982 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
George Washington famously loved his Rye Whiskey. In fact, after he served as the first president of the United States, he returned to his farm at Mount Vernon and started a small Rye distillery of his own.
Rye - think of it as Bourbon's edgier cousin. It’s known for what many call a spicy or fruity flavor. Rye (distilled from at least 51% Rye) is not on the sweet side and tends to have a spicier body. That’s why the character of a cocktail made from Rye, instead of Bourbon, is drier.
