True American Rye with history.

American Rye Whiskey is closely connected to the first colonies and Prez Numero Uno, George Washington. G-Wash made his own Rye Whiskey at Mount Vernon, producing large amounts of it till the day he died. His recipe was a lot of rye, a load of corn, and a dash of malted barley. This kind of Whiskey was huge in the era of saloons. A century after the Prohibition, it’s having its second coming, courtesy of the first distillery built in the town of Lexington, KY, after that booze-banning period. It’s called Town Branch and it began bottling in 2012.

Town Branch Rye Whiskey is a delicious revival of the old Maryland style Spirit. Its ratio is 55% rye, 30% corn, and 15% malted barley. It’s bottled at 100 Proof after four years of maturing in oak. The balanced nose and the tamed spiciness will appeal to both the Rye-lovers and Bourbon-heads. The grains are truly celebrated in this dram – although, according to the producer, do add some water to wake the best flavors up.

Rye - think of it as Bourbon's edgier cousin. It’s known for what many call a spicy or fruity flavor. Rye (distilled from at least 51% Rye) is not on the sweet side and tends to have a spicier body. That’s why the character of a cocktail made from Rye, instead of Bourbon, is drier.
George Washington famously loved his Rye Whiskey. In fact, after he served as the first president of the United States, he returned to his farm at Mount Vernon and started a small Rye distillery of his own.
Rye sparked the first revolution after the American Independence. It was called the Whiskey Rebellion, and it arose when the government tried to tax Whiskey and enforce the taxation on distillers. The lesson here? Don't mess with a Whiskey drinker's dram.
A decade ago there were only 6 brands of Rye Whiskey hailing from Kentucky, nowadays there are more than 50!
