Maybe your last chance to land a bottle of a storied, quarter-century-old Single Malt classic.

There is not even a freeway off-ramp for the little town of Tomatin. But that’s OK, keeps the city-folk out. Back in the 1970s, this little out-of-the-way hamlet produced more Whisky than anyplace in Scotland. Well, that’s no longer true, but their Highland Single Malt is still a core component of many of the finest blends, including two of their own: Antiquary and Talisman. Founded in 1897, Tomatin is owned by mega-corp Takara Shuzo from Japan, where demand for their products is huge. But they stab off a select amount of their production for their own signature Single Malt Whisky line across a range of ages and special editions.

There are three tidbits of info that are really important for Single Malt lovers to know here. First, it has long been known by fans that Tomatin 25 Year Old has been one of the perennial best buys of Single Malts in this age range. Second, it’s a pure expression — refill American oak casks and time are all it gets. Third and importantly, Tomatin 25 Year Old has been moved to the "Archived" section of the official website and is no longer listed in the core range.

What does all that mean? We don’t know. But this gorgeous, historic, and award-winning dram is bottled at 43% ABV and is available until we run out.

Smartass Corner:
Tomatin is located in the Highlands just outside of Cairngorms National Park about 22 miles southeast of Inverness. The signature flavor profile is similar to a Speysider.

Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made in Scotland using a pot still distillation process at a single distillery, with malted barley as the only grain ingredient. It must be matured in oak casks in Scotland for at least three years (most Single Malts are matured longer, though).

Nose / Aroma / Smell
Classic fragrances greet your nose with ripe pear, cedar wood, orange zest, and granola clusters.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
Our first thought was of pecan-oat streusel complimenting the rich and viscous mouth-feel, followed by notes of orange blossom honey, a slice of tart apple, and a hint of warm ginger spice.

The finish is long, smooth, and warm with dry-sweet glow.
