We got a job for you and your buddies: Save Colorado.

Proximo Spirits does a great job developing Spirits brands. Proximo was founded in 2007 by the Beckman family — owners of José Cuervo. Their portfolio now includes ten brands across a wide range of Spirits from Whiskey to Vodka, Gin, and Mezcal and back again. The Kraken Rum line of spiced Rums was introduced in 2010 and has seen exponential growth, especially in Australia where it has a dominant market position.

They devised The Kraken Attacks series as a brilliant promotion to support local bars during the pandemic with free cocktails and by issuing a series of limited edition bottles to support the project. It also will help them get more penetration in the US market, so everybody wins (except the competition). As dark as the depths of Black Canyon, this black spiced Rum is putting the Cowboy State in some real danger. You know what would help? If you called your buddies and sipped on it together…

Nose / Aroma / Smell
The aroma leads with notes of cinnamon-raisin bread, followed by butter toffee, tart apple, and a hint of menthol.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
The palate is all about vanilla and rich baking spices and they are all there — from allspice and cassia to clove and nutmeg… even a hint of something citrusy.

Finish
The finish is long and wet with the rich spices hanging out for the after-party.

If the center of our galaxy had a signature scent, it would be Rum. Yup, astronomers studying a giant cloud in the Milky Way found a substance called ethyl formate, a chemical that smells suspiciously like Rum.
Rum is a sugar cane based spirit, primarily made in the Caribbean and Latin America, but you can really find Rum in many corners of the world.
Mount Gay Rum is the oldest existing Rum company in the World dating back to 1705. This is also the year Guy Fawkes tried to blow up Britain’s Parliament.
Rum used to be accepted as a form of currency in Europe and Australia, a practice we should probably bring back into fashion.
Rum (usually) comes from molasses, the sweet and syrupy residue of refining sugarcane into sugar. Molasses is over 50% sugar, but it also contains significant amounts of minerals and other trace elements, contributing to the final flavor.
Common Rum classifications: White, Golden or Amber, Dark, Spiced, Añejo and Age-Dated Rums.
