Irish Whiskey in a Rum Cask.

Jack Teeling founded the Teeling Whiskey Company in 2012, with a mission to challenge the norm by crafting Irish Whiskey with more depth of personality and character than the current mass-market options, and to become Ireland's leading independent Irish Whiskey producer. Jack Teeling comes from a family with a long tradition associated with Irish Whiskey. Take for example the Cooley Distillery, which was founded by John Teeling, and Walter Teeling in 1782 who set up a distillery on Marrowbone Lane in Dublin.

Teeling Small Batch Whiskey is Teeling's attempt to create the most interesting Blended Irish Whiskey. Have they succeeded? The Small Batch is a blend of malt and grain Whiskey, specifically 35% malt and 65% grain, which means it's quite high in malt content (good!). It's bottled without an age statement, however we've found out that they use Whiskeys aged from 4 to 7 years. What makes it extra interesting is a further 6 months of maturation in ex-Flor de Cana Rum casks, which imparts sweet molasses flavors and notes, yet, remains Irish in the core. Fantastic? Oh yes. Teeling is making great progress towards reigniting the craving for Irish Whiskey Worldwide. We applaud.

In the U.S., Irish Whiskey sales have jumped by over 500% since 2002. It’s the fastest growing category in the Spirits industry. There’s some news to raise your glass to.
As a part of the sale of Cooley distillery to Beam Suntory, the Teelings negotiated the purchase of 16,000 casks of aged Whiskey, which was a milestone for Teeling Whiskey.
Irish Whiskey has many varieties: grain Whiskey, malted barley pot-still-distilled, and ‘pure pot-still’ (or ‘single pot still’ as it is now officially known). Then there is Poitin, one of the first Spirits ever made.
Poteen is a Whiskey made from potatoes, or in other words: it's Irish Vodka.
Whisky or Whiskey? The spelling differs geographically. In Scotland, Japan, and some other parts of the world, distilleries usually spell it Whisky; in Ireland and the USA, they spell it Whiskey.
Whiskey producers lose on average about 2% of their stock a year to angels' share. For Jameson, the biggest one of the Irish Whiskey brands, it means 29 thousand bottles going into the air (literally) every day!
