A fine blend of premium aged Rums from the Philippines with a fruit and herb profile.

The original distillery that would become Tanduay was founded in Hagonoy, Philippines, in 1854. Let’s just say that record-keeping in the Philippines was problematic at the time. But we do know that there was a series of mergers and acquisitions and primary distillation was moved to Manila in the early 1900s and the grandchildren of the original known managers reacquired the distillery and brand through their Elizalde & Company, Inc. The business continued to flourish, becoming a beloved producer of Rums and other Spirits in the Philippines. The mammoth LT Group purchased the entire operation in 1988, which still produces some of the most popular Spirits in Southeast Asia.

At first, the name "Tanduay CLX" was a bit of a mystery. But once you remember that "CLX" is the number "160" in Roman numerals and that this blend of aged Rums was released in 2014 — the distillery’s 160th anniversary year — it all makes sense. Tanduay CLX is a special edition created by master blender Faustino Munnariz. There is no age statement, but we are familiar with Tanduay Superior — their twelve year-old Rum — and the flavor profile is very similar. We suspect that this is a blend of both older and younger Tanduay Rums with an average age similar to the Superior.

Smartass Corner:
In the Philippine dialect, the word "tanduay" refers to a lowland area or peninsula like the one where the distillery is located. A similar word, "tanguay" refers to a place where Palm Wine is made. This makes "Tanduay" the perfect choice for a Philippine distillery.

Rum used to be accepted as a form of currency in Europe and Australia, a practice we should probably bring back into fashion.
A little bit of etymology; nobody really knows where the word Rum comes from. The most popular suggestions are Rum (the Romani word for 'potent'), Rumbullion (an uproar), Saccharum (sugar in Latin), and Rummer (a Dutch drinking glass).
Mount Gay Rum is the oldest existing Rum company in the World dating back to 1705. This is also the year Guy Fawkes tried to blow up Britain’s Parliament.
Common Rum classifications: White, Golden or Amber, Dark, Spiced, Añejo and Age-Dated Rums.
Next time you have a tipple of Rum you can say that you're tapping the Admiral. This intriguing phrase comes from the great Admiral Nelson who was killed in the battle of Trafalgar off of Spain. The story is that his body was preserved in Rum to be shipped back to England but, when the barrel arrived, some of the Rum was missing and said to have been siphoned off by some desperate or unknowing sailors. It's a great story but most likely false.
