The comeback kid.

Tamdhu, hidden in the Speyside hills of Knockando, started out as a revolutionary distillery in the time of early railroad construction, electricity and industrialisation in Scotland. The founders were obsessed with the idea of perfection and constructed the most advanced distillery of its time. They did so with the help of local natural resources – now, after so many years, their heritage is here for us to enjoy.

The distillery was closed for a little while and their water of life was used to make other blended Whiskies at some point. They came back a few years ago however, under a new autonomous leadership, with a simple goal: to make it as it was and to bring it to life in its former majesty.

The comeback came slowly, but surely. For quite a few years, the 10 YO was their sole single malt offering. Until this little Sherry bomb, that is. Tamdhu Batch Strength is bottled un-chill filtered at natural color and at lavish 58.3% ABV. Each batch is unique and varies slightly in style and intensity. As with every bottle of Tamdhu, once distilled it is matured exclusively in hand-selected American and European Sherry oak casks.

This is a really robust, full flavored dram, so you better watch out. The casks used are mostly first-fill, which means the Whisky is packed with character. It’s a tribute to the Tamdhu heritage that started all those years ago and a reminder that the future is bright. Damn, we enjoy a good comeback story almost as much as we enjoy a good dram. Luckily, this time, we can have both.

What does Tamdhu Batch Strength taste like?

The Flavour Spiral™ shows the most common flavours that you'll taste in Tamdhu Batch Strength and gives you a chance to have a taste of it before actually tasting it.

We invented Flavour Spiral™ here at Flaviar to get all your senses involved in tasting drinks and, frankly, because we think that classic tasting notes are boring.

Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made in Scotland using a pot still distillation process at a single distillery, with malted barley as the only grain ingredient. It must be matured in oak casks in Scotland for at least three years (most single malts are matured longer).

Christine
Christine,
They're not kidding on the batch strength, whew. Sweet sherry and oak in the flavor, very spicy finish. Had to add a bit of water to actually enjoy the flavor. I enjoyed wafting this one more than drinking it.

Ben
Ben,
A bolder scotch, you can taste the oak and sherry

Joshua
Joshua,
Great flavors and a good hearty kick! I enjoyed it.

Steve
Steve,
Way too strong for my tastes. Had to cut it with a splash of water. Couldn't really taste anything that stood out

Gordon
Gordon,
Wonderful buttery aroma but a bit harsh on the tongue to begin. Settles down with sweet notes and finishes with a Smokey, nutty note.

Brett
Brett,
Sweet on the nose with a buttery feel, smooth for batch strength, with a light smoke finish.

Alan
Alan,
Smooth and sweet definitely a good dram. I will order a bottle.

Patrick
Patrick,
Moderate smoke/peat. It was smooth for a batch strength.

Sabrina
Sabrina,
I little strong for me.

Mat
Mat,
A little too in-your-face for my taste, but still a nice, front-of-the-tongue, strong whiskey.

Michael
Michael,
Strong but without depth or sufficient flavor. If you want to get drunk by all means drink it - but there are better drams out there for strong and flavorful.

Megan
Megan,
Smells of vanilla and butterscotch. Tastes almost too sweet. When we added a drop of water, the vanilla and sherry popped and the sweetness toned down a notch. Didn't notice oak or citrus.

Tom
Tom,
I've tried a handful of scotches and this one is phenomenal. The flavor is nice and full, and I feel its a very smooth drink. This is certainly going to become a regular for my bar.

Yang
Yang,
Tastes ok. Hints of chocolate, "sherry", they call it. Floral aroma. But so much alcohol... 118 proof is just too much it drowns out the flavor...

Howard
Howard,
Nice and smooth

Levi
Levi,
I had to cut it with water. Scotch is not as much my thing as bourbon. It is a fine bottle, just not as enjoyable for me as bourbon.

Timothy
Timothy,
The amount of rich fruit that comes through with this will blow your socks off. Super sweet and very hot (strong), yet amazingly well balanced.

Ryan
Ryan,
Heavy sweet front with a nice finish. Great with a mild cigar

Matthew
Matthew,
As my first batch-strength, I had to learn to bite off smaller sips than with normal Scotch but after that adjustment, I really love this. It has the wonderful mouth texture and smoothness I would expect from a sherry-casked whiskey, and serves as an excellent counterpart to my Macallan 12

André
André,
Best Whisky ever tasted - batch 1 better than batch 2 so far.

Ben
Ben,
Excellent and very smooth!!!!

Gary
Gary,
While not smokey, or peaty, the batch strength is something to be appreciated. Should be a standard in the Scotch bar list.

Ty
Ty,
Very good and very robust. It's a little hot to drink neat, and takes some experimenting to figure out how much water to put on it. For my money, the Tamdhu 10 is just as good, more approachable, and much less expensive.

David
David,
Very smooth caramel taste

Will
Will,
love it

Tom
Tom,
First sip bring a lot of caramel and vanilla, with pepper and just a hint of smoke on the finish. Extremely smooth for such a high proof. I only had the tasting sample, but when I buy a bottle I would like to try with a little water or ice

Enoch
Enoch,
For cask strength, this is very smooth, fruity, oaky, and with a peppery finish that lasts forever. A very enjoyable glass. A couple of small cubes of ice really opens the aromas on this one.

Theodore
Theodore,
Very smooth, sweet, vanilla and fruit. Almost no smoke. Long finish. Just wonderful

Incredibly smooth for 120 proof.
