guest,
If you don’t love this the first time you try it, there’s a good chance you will the second time, and every other time after that. This was my first Islay and perhaps not surprisingly, the ashy, smoky, peaty notes were a bit much. Afterward I had the pleasure of trying Talisker 10 which has a similar flavor profile but with less intensity. I liked it a lot. Then I came back to the Lagavulin. Wow. A completely different perspective. All of the sudden my taste buds were craving that smoky earthy goodness. This is a bottle that I’ll always have on hand going forward.
guest,
Ughh...this review was for Lagavulin 16. Admins please seller if possible. Apologies!
guest,
*please delete if possible. I swear I’m not drunk!
guest,
This is one that I’ll always need to have a bottle on hand. Deliciously smoky but not overpowering. I find myself smelling my glencairn glass long after I’ve finished the last drop. It should be said that if you’re curious about Islays but aren’t ready to dive in headfirst, this is a fantastic gateway scotch to that world.
Lawrence,
Talisker 10 never disappoints. Pleasant dram and carries the day for musing and recovery!
Antonio,
This Skye offering gives peat, smoke, oil, fruit, and is rounder and heavier than most of Islay offerings.
Elijah,
Raisins, dried apricot from the nose. Very light upfront but gets aggressive in a good way quickly. Peat present throughout. Spice on the finish. Amazing single malt. One of my favorites.
Thomas,
One I have to keep in stock. Hits just the right balance of peat and coast. Mmmm.
Jered,
Wonderful peat smoke. Apple and pear start with a nice peppery finish. One of my favorite.
James,
Didn't like it at first, but added just a bit of water and really liked it then. REALLY smokey and the ethanol kick is something to prepare yourself for.
David,
I really like peat smoke whisky. Talisker has been a favorite for many years.
Mark,
A touch of smoke and a lot of depth. Nice alternative to an Islay.
David,
Great peat and complex.

Evan,
Stronger profile than the Talisker Storm, good stuff but have to be in the mood for some warmth
Victor,
Delicious, Smokey, peppery
Aaron,
Was really excited to dive into this with all you hear and read about Talisker. I came off just a little disappointed, but still enjoyed it. Nose of peat, honey sweetness, toffee, and a little orange zest over time. Taste brought medium peat levels, some oak and leather, sweet spice, and touches of dark chocolate and iodine after 45 mins or so. Body was medium-sized at best and finish didn't last long. This was pretty good but I liked Glen Scotia 15, Port Charlotte, Benromach 10, and Oban 14 all a bit more.
Toru,
Like a lot!
Sean,
Very smooth, a little smoke and peat - this is great
Jose,
My always-available, favorite Scotch whisky
Hunter,
Peat. That is essentially the sole note here. Great as a display of peat in scotch, but nothing further than that. Great for home blending and a staple for expressing the basic flavor of scotch.
Dennis,
Doubtless you've heard of the grand Talkisker. You've read all about the nose and taste. I'm only here to tell you that you will not find a better whisky neat, on-the-rocks or in a hot toddie. It's truly perfect.
Scott,
Nose is a beach campfire, like seaweed drying over a fire. The palette is complex, I don't get any of the apple notes I've heard of. Black pepper, barrel spice, and smoke are the predominant notes for me. The finish is peaty but leans towards a subtle sweetness.
Jack,
Very smooth smoky flavor.
Jacopo,
Good but too much of a straight shooter. For a similar price lagavulin 16 and ardbeg 10 are definitely a better value
Seth,
Excellent scotch - great for sipping. Lots of character. Well balanced.
Robert,
This is my go to Scotch since the early '90s. Very consistent through all those years. Hard to beat the price.
Bob,
Talisker 10yr is always a top-3 in my list; love it
Oliver,
A good introduction to whisky from the west coast of Scotland, not as aggressive as laphroaig for example
Maarten,
As a non peat lover this is a peated whisky i can still really enjoy, more smoke on the nose then on the palette. Bright in taste, fresh green apple. Short to medium but pleasant finish.
Guy,
Oh Talisker 10, my old friend. This is a great bottle by itself and with regard to price. The smoke balances well with the pepper and dried fruit notes. The best balanced island scotch I have on the shelf. You will not be disappointed unless you don't like smoke, then move along please.
Robert,
LOVE this - would give it 10 but I am still exploring and learning what I like. I think the flavor profile is way off though; this is so well-balanced between the smoke/peat (still figuring out that distinction) and the caramel/apple. I can see this being a mainstay.
Laura,
Slight smoke, sweet almost marshmallow finish
Niko,
Quality whisky but too spicy
Edwin,
This took a few years before i finished it. Twas too peaty for my tastes originally, either my tastes changed or it mellowed over the years as i enjoyed my last few drams
Chris,
Salty bacon and apples
Collin,
Very complex. Deep meaty peat smoke paired with vibrant fruit tones.
Diane,
One of my favorites, always like to have this on hand. I like the smoke and flavor.
Tom,
My favorite. Just a terrific, balanced and wonderful Scotch!
Jack,
Talisker is my favorite all around any occasion whiskey at the moment. Peaty but not too peaty, smooth, no unpleasant aftertaste. Just a great sip.
Joseph,
Still not a fan of the peat.
Tai,
Nice and smooth, bit peaty after taste. Daily drinker
James,
Nice blend of smoke and peet.. It’s on the lighter side.
Jessica,
Very very few drams will blow me away at first taste. This was one, and is one of the reasons I joined flaviar. I was enjoying a classic malt collection (Lagavulin 16, Craggenmore 12, & Talisker 10) and this scotch was absolutely exceptional. I realize everybody's palate is in a different place... but during my first tasting alone, I knew immediately, that I was going to buy a full sized bottle and would be a lifelong fan of this spirit. It was my new favorite above any others, and it remains so to this day. Well balanced with ample (but not overpowering) amount of smoke. The sweeter hints are there, but they are tucked underneath the covers. Excellent evening dram for that first opportunity to relax... like sitting on a beach all by yourself.
If I want a lighter or sweeter dram, I'll look to a clean Glenmorangie or a lowland. But if I want something more masculine without overdone bravado, it's this one... bar none. I like it so much I actually hesitated to give a review because I don't want others to start buying it all up! But fair is fair... and I would regret someone with a similar palate to mine to miss out on this one. I give it a hard nine. When finances permit, I will look to their higher ages of Talisker and see if there is one slightly smoother. If there is, it may be the elusive 10 out of 10 I've long sought...
Jarrett,
Love this whisky. I’m new to drinking peated whiskeys so the first few drams I only got the smoke. Now I taste the apple the sweetness and the salt with the smoke on the background. I recommend this one if you’re peat curious haha
guest,
Light smoke and brine on the nose. Touch of salt and honey on the palate, with a nice lingering pepper finish. A nice entry level Islay. Definitely a classic!
Luke,
A wonderfully balanced Isle Scotch. Ample but not overwhelming smoke, and salt and peppered apples on those nose. Almost like the aroma of apple smoked bacon cooking. Rich sweet and salty on the palate with some honey salt water taffy and a bit of sweet bacon and fresh pepper. Satisfying lingering full finish. A few drops of water expose some caramel and creme brulee. The "too smokey" reviewers clearly have never experienced Isle Scotch before. Talisker is not liquid forest fire smokey. Just enough to make it interesting. Love this stuff. And it HAS NOT CHANGED to appeal to the man-bun drinky-poo masses. This is real Scotch Whisky, folks.
Jessica,
Great review, and I wholeheartedly agree. (Except for maybe the bacon... I will have to search for it next sipping!) Such a good scotch, this one
Andy,
I love this complex scotch with all the different fruit flavors and a hint of smoke at the end.
Michael,
As far scotch goes, its solid but i think my personal preferences are straying from the peatiness in favor of smoother drinking whiskey. Aroma is heavy with smoke and is fairly overpowering. There is a slight burn in the nostrils. Initial taste is smoke...followed by a hint of caramel, and finishes with more smoke, but surprisingly mellow burn. I would not purchase a bottle for myself, but think it would be a good gift for a regular scotch drinker. A bottle in my own collection would last a long time, as it would be a special occasion with a friend or two who would appreciate above average scotch for me to break it out.
Josh,
Apples up front, smoke comes second and a spicy finish on the tongue, very good but with so many varieties, it’s not my “GO TO SCOTCH.”
Dan,
Not a huge fan of the amount of iodine on the nose. Very off-putting
Connor,
Apples, lots and lots of apples. Enjoyable, would buy again.
Eli,
Raw honey, brine and sea air, light peat
Clint,
Talisker 10 is perfectly aged and distilled for an amazing texture, taste and just the right amount of peaty!
danni,
A whisky whit a good taste of smoke i recoment this whisky
Sharif,
Very balanced. It's not nearly as smoky as everyone is making it out to be, I'd put this at about 20ppm maximum. Anyone who says otherwise has probably never had an Islay. The smoke is light and plays a small part in a symphony of flavors. The flavor spiral is pretty much spot on here with the apple coming in as the most prominent flavor followed by brine and pepper. It's very pleasant!
Daniel,
Peat, vanilla, malt, oak. Wonderful.
Matt,
fancy a sip of smoked salmon? how about a dram of lox bagel? the smokey taste reminds me of fish, which i guess goes along with the seaside angle. enjoyable, but would need to be in the right mood for this. will end up coming back to this bottle slowly over time.
Shauna,
very smooth and floral, also taste peat, and fruit.
Matt,
A great Scotch when you are thinking about being on the sea. Presents layers of smoke, peat, brine, and subtle sweetness. A wonderful dram to sit back and enjoy.
guest,
Good value
guest,
Pleasant level of smoke, high 8
guest,
Very smoky.
TERRENCE,
What I love about Talisker is that it tastes like it came from the Coast. Just a hint of saltiness mixed in with the sweet and smokey. Delicious!
Cameron,
The smoke is a bit overpowering in this one. You can find other flavors but they're heavily masked by the smoke. A solid choice nonetheless.
Cameron,
This was meant to be a 7
Josef,
Salty
guest,
The best
guest,
My go-to along with Lagavulin 16. Perfect blend of smoke, peat, and sweet (for me). For referense, it seems a couple points less smokey than a Laphroaig Quarter Cask. So to me it settles in smoother for an enjoyable go-to experience.
bill,
Solid single malt. This feels like a classic whisky. Nothing to dislike. You can’t go wrong with this in your collection
FRANK,
excellent flavors ...enjoyed w a cube or two. would definately recommend to a friend.
Philip,
Excellent Single Malt with just the right amount of peat. If you like a smoky scotch, I highly recommend Talisker!
Todd,
You get some aroma of smoke and peat, the taste is peaty and smoky, but then some pretty strong pepper kicks in and lingers. Enjoyable and certainly different than Ardbeg or Lagavulin. If pepper isn't your thing - stay clear! For me this is a step back from Ardbeg 10, but not by much.
Becki,
definite smoky flavor
Gregory,
Smooth with a great smoke taste
Gašper,
Smooth smoky flavour,very drinkable
Sahil,
Really smooth taste
Matt,
Multiple layers of flavor. Starts on the nose with some toasted sweetness, then on the tongue comes on with distinct brininess and accents of mated sweetness. Smooth finish with some residual smoke fading into the background.
guest,
Bit of honey sweetness
Robert,
"Beautiful amber color.
Definitely peat on the nose. Hints of smoke.
First taste - big burn some rubber. Pepper aftertaste.
Second taste- honey and smoke are notable.
Adding water- burn disappears, definitely peat and honey with smoke on the backside. Definitely salty too.
I was hoping to really like this but it might be too rubbery for my tastebuds."
I tried this a second time and decided that it is wonderful.
Adam,
Mine tasted more like a night out on bonfire night. Strong smell and taste of smoke and peat, not exactly unpleasant however preferred mixed.
Matthew,
Solid consistent and peaty, a must try
Michael,
Good peat, good sweet, and nice balance
Michael,
Very well balanced scotch. Sweet and smoky without being overwhelming in either respect. Classic.
Madhukar,
Floral peat with ascending smoke
Zach,
It’s not bad, but not great. I’d take a Laphroaig 10 over this any day at the same price point, however you can smell the sea a bit, and it’s pretty tasty.
Imran,
Just OK
Stefano,
Notes of sea are amazing
guest,
Alright, first review! So.
Appearance: E150 caramel
Taste/Aroma: Quite sweet and salty akin to salted Caramel with just a hint of pear and tropical fruits, peat creeps up but still quite subtle. ends in a slightly Smokey, peppery finish. This whisky reminds me of really good barbecued meat in a nice sauce minus the meat,
Overall: absolutely love it. Not giving a 10 because it has e150 so I can’t appreciate it’s true appearance but hey, Diageo needs to appeal to the masses!
Gary,
Went out of my comfort zone and loved it! I usually avoid the Smokey, peaty whiskies after trying and hating years ago. My palette has matured slightly so I figured I’d give it another go. It’s campfire Smokey but it dosnt overtake the rest of the whiskey. I would recommend this to someone who has tried and liked a few spayside and highlands before this.
Lawrence,
Smoke and peat hit the nose with a hint of vanilla. Peat. Vanilla. Oily. Spice. Black pepper on the tongue and back if the throat. Although less pronounced with ever sip, the spice and pepper remains. Medium finish with oily lips. Very nice.
Jyrki,
I love this. It's my absolute favourite. I have this at my home bar all the time.
Jordan,
Such a distinct and unique flavour about it. Has a little bite at the back end that i find pleasant as well.
Wendy,
Love this!
GySgt,
It is. very Smokey but smooth. I tend to shy from the really Smokey and this has a effect that is long and very aromatic
Andrew,
Some peaty smell, but not taste. Neat it feels and tastes like a cheaper mezcal. Over ice is better, and brought out more flavor (still like a peaty mezcal). Adding a little water helped further balance the sharp alcohol bite and bring out the flavor.
Michihiro,
Bang for your buck this is the perfect balance of rich flavor at the right price point
guest,
Strong, Smokey and a little sweet
guest,
Lightly peated
Edward,
So very balanced.
Brian,
For me this is a great balance of smoke and sweetness with a great spicy finish that lingers with the smoke. One of my new favorites.
Dante,
This scotch is extremely smooth with strong smoky flavor. Once the smoke and peat flavor fades you’re left with a mouthful of salty molasses.
Kyle,
I'm a big fan of smokey tasting scotch whisky and this one doesn't disappoint in that regard.
Bryan,
Really to smokey for my taste.
Levi,
This is my go-to bar stock for Islays. Its pretty mellow on the smoke and the salt gives it a very nice flavor. My wife knows to ensure a new bottle appears before the last one empties. There are some special edition Islays I would gladly drink before this, but for the cost, this is hard to beat.
Garrett,
Tastes like bandaids.
Simone,
My first smoky scotch. Not my favorite at the moment, but quite good.
James,
Fun! Challenging, earthy and leathery flavors, but fun if you know what you're getting yourself into. Smoke is there too!
James,
My first introduction to scotch was Talisker 10 years and what a great intro it was. This was the drink that got me into whisky and will always have a special place on my shelf. The right amount of roughness to help warm you up on a cold day.
Mark,
Very smokey. More medicinal on the nose. Leather and polish. Some lime and lemon on the palette. Some honey on the finish.
Susie,
Did not care for the taste
Dave,
Lovely. Lightly peated with salty and sweet notes that shine through
Benjamin,
Not for me, taste like iodine.
Caleb,
First scotch I ever had and I fell in love with it right away
Renee,
Nice smoke with more sweet than the Skye. Also peppery like Skye with the aftertaste of salt.
Dean,
Some discredit this bottle as too loud and unbalanced, but I think it's strengths make up for that unruly volcanic nature. No spirit I've ever tried has as much body in the mouth; it is like it expanding into your whole mouth. The flavor is of course that intense peaty marine flavor with a bit of black pepper. Unforgettable.
Ryan,
A distinctive malt, with brine competing for your attention as much as smoke. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Kevin,
Magic in a bottle.
guest,
Nose: Peat Smoke Phenols, Sea Salt, Iodine, Seaweed, Malt Barley
Taste: Smoke, Sea Salt, White Pepper, Chilli Pepper, Slight Fruity Cask Influences of mostly Mediterranean Dried Fruits
Finish: Medium to Long
An extraordinary complexity for its age. Young age gives strength and peaty flavours. Tough and robust. Balanced. Almost a masterpiece. However its sharp edged flavours are not for everyone.
George,
Absolutely loved it, very smoke yet extremely smooth!
Marcus,
My introduction to peaty whiskey. Definitely deep and complex. Harsh, but with enough flavor to back it up.
Bradley,
Liked the nose But the finish was a bit harsh.
Mike,
Full, hearty and very smoky
Cody,
Best for the money, my go to scotch! Smokey and smooth
Aleksander,
smoky
Marvin,
A little smoke but lots of rich flavor.
Benjamin,
Great!
Joseph,
Strong initial bite but rich and deep flavor. Pairs well with red meat. Smoky on the nose, salted peat to the palate and rich sweet finish.
guest,
A fantastic choice to drink by the sea on a summer night
Ron,
I know some long time scotch drinks that will swear by Talisker but for me the smoke just killed the enjoyment. It was like drinking a camp fire.
Marc,
As a fan of smoky whisky, I found this one very enjoyable. Smoky and peaty with a mildly sweet finish. Excellent.
Thomas,
My all-time favorite, always.
The top of the hill above the distillery is all peat bog (and a beautiful view!), so the dilute water adds an extra hit of peat.
guest,
Smooth and accessible.
Mark,
Smoky, salty, smooth
Matt,
Talisker is my go to scotch. Such an amazing blend of smoke and peat and an essence of salt water.
Justin,
If you enjoy gargling with salt water and charcoal, Talisker is the Scotch for you and you can have it. I like it less than Lagavulin and that is saying something.
Marc,
This is my second bottle. From the first sip I was sold. The smokiness is the best I have tasted. Plan on enjoying it best when "Outlander" begins in September.
guest,
Really great scotch that I enjoyed as a scotch novice. Love the peat and it reminds me to sip and enjoy.
Matthew,
A little rough for my taste
guest,
Nice, spicy, sweet, silt.
James,
Love the smokey smoothness of this dram. I would buy it again and again. I recommend this dram with a little water or an ice cube.
guest,
Smokey and sublime. Not quite the impact of Lagavulin but delicious nonetheless.
Mariano,
First trully whisky contact
guest,
Liquid ash! In a good way.
007,
I love this scotch. Salty, peaty, and oh so good! Plus the Bond tie-in makes an even more tempting buy. Bond fan or not, this scotch is great!
Michael,
Honestly, one of the best scotch whiskeys I have ever tasted. The perfect balance of smokey, spicy, and sweet notes in one dram.
guest,
My favourite. Nicely balanced with a great flavour.
guest,
Wonderfully unique with a nice complexity for a 10 year.
guest,
delicious
Stephen,
Very smooth. Although I did enjoy the port ruighe much more. Has a sweet taste, followed by smoke, and then a little salt. It lingers for a while as well leaving a nice peaty taste.
guest,
Great bang for the buck. My go to
Gary,
Salty, smoky, peaty, but all balanced
guest,
Smoky, salty, wow a great one!
Andrew,
If you're looking for a peaty and smokey scotch with a touch of sweetness this is it!
Will,
One of my favorites, smoke and sea with a long finish. Perfect!
Denis,
Хороший сбалансированный вкус. Копчёностей в меру. Богатое послевкусие.
Steven,
The 10 can be a bit hot for some, but I'm in love!
guest,
If you're big into Scotch this is one to put on your list.
Jay,
Good smoke. Took me a bit to find the salt, but it adds a nice flavor
Paul,
It was alright.
guest,
Great, spicy and salty.
guest,
Classic old school whisky. Big and bold. Agent 007's favorite dram. A great one indeed.
guest,
Nice fruity body
guest,
Smoky
guest,
For me this is the archetype of the pepper flavor.
guest,
Well priced, a little to ashy for my liking
Matthias,
Rough like Sea... In a good way.
Grant,
Interesting and intriguing, well worth trying and will have it again
