Edwin,
This took a few years before i finished it. Twas too peaty for my tastes originally, either my tastes changed or it mellowed over the years as i enjoyed my last few drams

Talisker is my favorite all around any occasion whiskey at the moment. Peaty but not too peaty, smooth, no unpleasant aftertaste. Just a great sip.

Still not a fan of the peat.

Jessica
Jessica,
Very very few drams will blow me away at first taste. This was one, and is one of the reasons I joined flaviar. I was enjoying a classic malt collection (Lagavulin 16, Craggenmore 12, & Talisker 10) and this scotch was absolutely exceptional. I realize everybody's palate is in a different place... but during my first tasting alone, I knew immediately, that I was going to buy a full sized bottle and would be a lifelong fan of this spirit. It was my new favorite above any others, and it remains so to this day. Well balanced with ample (but not overpowering) amount of smoke. The sweeter hints are there, but they are tucked underneath the covers. Excellent evening dram for that first opportunity to relax... like sitting on a beach all by yourself. If I want a lighter or sweeter dram, I'll look to a clean Glenmorangie or a lowland. But if I want something more masculine without overdone bravado, it's this one... bar none. I like it so much I actually hesitated to give a review because I don't want others to start buying it all up! But fair is fair... and I would regret someone with a similar palate to mine to miss out on this one. I give it a hard nine. When finances permit, I will look to their higher ages of Talisker and see if there is one slightly smoother. If there is, it may be the elusive 10 out of 10 I've long sought...

guest,
Light smoke and brine on the nose. Touch of salt and honey on the palate, with a nice lingering pepper finish. A nice entry level Islay. Definitely a classic!

Luke
Luke,
A wonderfully balanced Isle Scotch. Ample but not overwhelming smoke, and salt and peppered apples on those nose. Almost like the aroma of apple smoked bacon cooking. Rich sweet and salty on the palate with some honey salt water taffy and a bit of sweet bacon and fresh pepper. Satisfying lingering full finish. A few drops of water expose some caramel and creme brulee. The "too smokey" reviewers clearly have never experienced Isle Scotch before. Talisker is not liquid forest fire smokey. Just enough to make it interesting. Love this stuff. And it HAS NOT CHANGED to appeal to the man-bun drinky-poo masses. This is real Scotch Whisky, folks.
Jessica
Jessica,
Great review, and I wholeheartedly agree. (Except for maybe the bacon... I will have to search for it next sipping!) Such a good scotch, this one
Andy
Andy,
I love this complex scotch with all the different fruit flavors and a hint of smoke at the end.

Michael
Michael,
As far scotch goes, its solid but i think my personal preferences are straying from the peatiness in favor of smoother drinking whiskey. Aroma is heavy with smoke and is fairly overpowering. There is a slight burn in the nostrils. Initial taste is smoke...followed by a hint of caramel, and finishes with more smoke, but surprisingly mellow burn. I would not purchase a bottle for myself, but think it would be a good gift for a regular scotch drinker. A bottle in my own collection would last a long time, as it would be a special occasion with a friend or two who would appreciate above average scotch for me to break it out.

Josh
Josh,
Apples up front, smoke comes second and a spicy finish on the tongue, very good but with so many varieties, it’s not my “GO TO SCOTCH.”

Dan
Dan,
Not a huge fan of the amount of iodine on the nose. Very off-putting

Connor
Connor,
Apples, lots and lots of apples. Enjoyable, would buy again.

Talisker 10 is perfectly aged and distilled for an amazing texture, taste and just the right amount of peaty!

A whisky whit a good taste of smoke i recoment this whisky

Sharif
Sharif,
Very balanced. It's not nearly as smoky as everyone is making it out to be, I'd put this at about 20ppm maximum. Anyone who says otherwise has probably never had an Islay. The smoke is light and plays a small part in a symphony of flavors. The flavor spiral is pretty much spot on here with the apple coming in as the most prominent flavor followed by brine and pepper. It's very pleasant!

Daniel
Daniel,
Peat, vanilla, malt, oak. Wonderful.

Matt
Matt,
fancy a sip of smoked salmon? how about a dram of lox bagel? the smokey taste reminds me of fish, which i guess goes along with the seaside angle. enjoyable, but would need to be in the right mood for this. will end up coming back to this bottle slowly over time.

Patrick
Patrick,
very smooth and floral, also taste peat, and fruit.

Matt
Matt,
A great Scotch when you are thinking about being on the sea. Presents layers of smoke, peat, brine, and subtle sweetness. A wonderful dram to sit back and enjoy.

TERRENCE
TERRENCE,
What I love about Talisker is that it tastes like it came from the Coast. Just a hint of saltiness mixed in with the sweet and smokey. Delicious!

Cameron
Cameron,
The smoke is a bit overpowering in this one. You can find other flavors but they're heavily masked by the smoke. A solid choice nonetheless.

guest

My go-to along with Lagavulin 16. Perfect blend of smoke, peat, and sweet (for me). For referense, it seems a couple points less smokey than a Laphroaig Quarter Cask. So to me it settles in smoother for an enjoyable go-to experience.

bill
bill,
Solid single malt. This feels like a classic whisky. Nothing to dislike. You can’t go wrong with this in your collection

FRANK
FRANK,
excellent flavors ...enjoyed w a cube or two. would definately recommend to a friend.

Philip
Philip,
Excellent Single Malt with just the right amount of peat. If you like a smoky scotch, I highly recommend Talisker!

Todd
Todd,
You get some aroma of smoke and peat, the taste is peaty and smoky, but then some pretty strong pepper kicks in and lingers. Enjoyable and certainly different than Ardbeg or Lagavulin. If pepper isn't your thing - stay clear! For me this is a step back from Ardbeg 10, but not by much.

Becki
Becki,
definite smoky flavor

Matt
Matt,
Multiple layers of flavor. Starts on the nose with some toasted sweetness, then on the tongue comes on with distinct brininess and accents of mated sweetness. Smooth finish with some residual smoke fading into the background.

guest
guest,
Bit of honey sweetness

Robert
Robert,
"Beautiful amber color. Definitely peat on the nose. Hints of smoke. First taste - big burn some rubber. Pepper aftertaste. Second taste- honey and smoke are notable. Adding water- burn disappears, definitely peat and honey with smoke on the backside. Definitely salty too. I was hoping to really like this but it might be too rubbery for my tastebuds." I tried this a second time and decided that it is wonderful.

Adam
Adam,
Mine tasted more like a night out on bonfire night. Strong smell and taste of smoke and peat, not exactly unpleasant however preferred mixed.

Matthew
Matthew,
Solid consistent and peaty, a must try

Michael

Good peat, good sweet, and nice balance

Michael
Michael,
Very well balanced scotch. Sweet and smoky without being overwhelming in either respect. Classic.

Madhukar
Madhukar,
Floral peat with ascending smoke

Zach
Zach,
It’s not bad, but not great. I’d take a Laphroaig 10 over this any day at the same price point, however you can smell the sea a bit, and it’s pretty tasty.

Imran
Imran,
Just OK

Stefano
Stefano,
Notes of sea are amazing

guest
guest,
Alright, first review! So. Appearance: E150 caramel Taste/Aroma: Quite sweet and salty akin to salted Caramel with just a hint of pear and tropical fruits, peat creeps up but still quite subtle. ends in a slightly Smokey, peppery finish. This whisky reminds me of really good barbecued meat in a nice sauce minus the meat, Overall: absolutely love it. Not giving a 10 because it has e150 so I can’t appreciate it’s true appearance but hey, Diageo needs to appeal to the masses!

Gary
Gary,
Went out of my comfort zone and loved it! I usually avoid the Smokey, peaty whiskies after trying and hating years ago. My palette has matured slightly so I figured I’d give it another go. It’s campfire Smokey but it dosnt overtake the rest of the whiskey. I would recommend this to someone who has tried and liked a few spayside and highlands before this.

Lawrence
Lawrence,
Smoke and peat hit the nose with a hint of vanilla. Peat. Vanilla. Oily. Spice. Black pepper on the tongue and back if the throat. Although less pronounced with ever sip, the spice and pepper remains. Medium finish with oily lips. Very nice.

Jyrki
Jyrki,
I love this. It's my absolute favourite. I have this at my home bar all the time.

Jordan
Jordan,
Such a distinct and unique flavour about it. Has a little bite at the back end that i find pleasant as well.

Wendy
Wendy,
Love this!

GySgt
GySgt,
It is. very Smokey but smooth. I tend to shy from the really Smokey and this has a effect that is long and very aromatic

Andrew
Andrew,
Some peaty smell, but not taste. Neat it feels and tastes like a cheaper mezcal. Over ice is better, and brought out more flavor (still like a peaty mezcal). Adding a little water helped further balance the sharp alcohol bite and bring out the flavor.

Michihiro
Michihiro,
Bang for your buck this is the perfect balance of rich flavor at the right price point

So very balanced.

Brian
Brian,
For me this is a great balance of smoke and sweetness with a great spicy finish that lingers with the smoke. One of my new favorites.

Dante
Dante,
This scotch is extremely smooth with strong smoky flavor. Once the smoke and peat flavor fades you’re left with a mouthful of salty molasses.

Kyle
Kyle,
I'm a big fan of smokey tasting scotch whisky and this one doesn't disappoint in that regard.

Bryan
Bryan,
Really to smokey for my taste.

Levi
Levi,
This is my go-to bar stock for Islays. Its pretty mellow on the smoke and the salt gives it a very nice flavor. My wife knows to ensure a new bottle appears before the last one empties. There are some special edition Islays I would gladly drink before this, but for the cost, this is hard to beat.

Garrett
Garrett,
Tastes like bandaids.

Simone
Simone,
My first smoky scotch. Not my favorite at the moment, but quite good.

James
James,
Fun! Challenging, earthy and leathery flavors, but fun if you know what you're getting yourself into. Smoke is there too!

James
James,
My first introduction to scotch was Talisker 10 years and what a great intro it was. This was the drink that got me into whisky and will always have a special place on my shelf. The right amount of roughness to help warm you up on a cold day.

Mark
Mark,
Very smokey. More medicinal on the nose. Leather and polish. Some lime and lemon on the palette. Some honey on the finish.

Susie
Susie,
Did not care for the taste

Dave
Dave,
Lovely. Lightly peated with salty and sweet notes that shine through

Benjamin
Benjamin,
Not for me, taste like iodine.

Caleb
Caleb,
First scotch I ever had and I fell in love with it right away

Renee
Renee,
Nice smoke with more sweet than the Skye. Also peppery like Skye with the aftertaste of salt.

Andrew
Andrew,
Some discredit this bottle as too loud and unbalanced, but I think it's strengths make up for that unruly volcanic nature. No spirit I've ever tried has as much body in the mouth; it is like it expanding into your whole mouth. The flavor is of course that intense peaty marine flavor with a bit of black pepper. Unforgettable.

Ryan
Ryan,
A distinctive malt, with brine competing for your attention as much as smoke. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Kevin
Kevin,
Magic in a bottle.

guest
guest,
Nose: Peat Smoke Phenols, Sea Salt, Iodine, Seaweed, Malt Barley Taste: Smoke, Sea Salt, White Pepper, Chilli Pepper, Slight Fruity Cask Influences of mostly Mediterranean Dried Fruits Finish: Medium to Long An extraordinary complexity for its age. Young age gives strength and peaty flavours. Tough and robust. Balanced. Almost a masterpiece. However its sharp edged flavours are not for everyone.

George
George,
Absolutely loved it, very smoke yet extremely smooth!

Marcus
Marcus,
My introduction to peaty whiskey. Definitely deep and complex. Harsh, but with enough flavor to back it up.

A fantastic choice to drink by the sea on a summer night

Ron
Ron,
I know some long time scotch drinks that will swear by Talisker but for me the smoke just killed the enjoyment. It was like drinking a camp fire.

Daniel
Daniel,
As a fan of smoky whisky, I found this one very enjoyable. Smoky and peaty with a mildly sweet finish. Excellent.

Thomas
Thomas,
My all-time favorite, always. The top of the hill above the distillery is all peat bog (and a beautiful view!), so the dilute water adds an extra hit of peat.

guest,
Smooth and accessible.

Mark
Mark,
Smoky, salty, smooth

Matt
Matt,
Talisker is my go to scotch. Such an amazing blend of smoke and peat and an essence of salt water.

Justin
Justin,
If you enjoy gargling with salt water and charcoal, Talisker is the Scotch for you and you can have it. I like it less than Lagavulin and that is saying something.

Marc
Marc,
This is my second bottle. From the first sip I was sold. The smokiness is the best I have tasted. Plan on enjoying it best when "Outlander" begins in September.

Very smooth. Although I did enjoy the port ruighe much more. Has a sweet taste, followed by smoke, and then a little salt. It lingers for a while as well leaving a nice peaty taste.
