If you’ve at least dipped your toes into collecting famous Whiskey bottles, you’ve probably heard of George T. Stagg — limited offerings by Buffalo Trace in their Antique Collection. You could say Stagg Jr. bottlings are their little brothers but don’t be fooled as they’re just as sought-after.

Stagg Jr. Barrel Proof Bourbon (Batch 16) was released in the summer of 2021. This collectible comes straight at you at a whopping 130.9 proof with rich, thick, and heavy flavors of cinnamon, burnt toffee, and chocolates. It’s like a big, warm Kentucky Bourbon hug for adults.

Bourbon rules refer to manufacturing methods rather than location. Bourbon must be matured in new and charred American white oak casks for at least 2 years. If the bottle has no age statement, the Bourbon is at least 4 years old. No coloring or flavoring of any type is allowed, and the mash bill must contain at least 51% corn.
Bourbon matures quicker than Scotch due to higher temperatures in American warehouses.

Pinhooking means purchasing and rearing a foal based on its pedigree and either selling it or turning it into a champ racing horse. The same idea is behind Pinhook Bourbon: they source young Whiskey to mature and blend it into a blue-ribbon sipping Bourbon.

At any given time, there are more barrels of Bourbon in Kentucky than there are people. The population of the Bluegrass State is about 4.4 million. Today there are more than 5 million barrels of Bourbon sitting in the rick-houses of that Old Kentucky Home. That’s nearly 300 bottles of Bourbon per person, or about 60 gallons each.
The Buffalo Trace Distillery was one of the few production facilities that was allowed to remain in operation during Prohibition for "medicinal purposes."

Pinhook’s high-proof Bourbon won Gold at the 2019 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, while the Straight Rye Whiskey won Double Gold the following year. In 2021, their Bourbon War Vertical Series 5 Year and the 2021 Flagship Bourbon won a Gold Medal each, with a Double Gold going to their Tiz Rye Time Vertical Series 5 Year. Pinhook is evidently doing something right!
