15 reasons to fall in love with Speyside.

Founded by John Hopkins in 1897, Speyburn Distillery offers the authentic Speyside flavor, concocted through tradition and modern know-how. The story goes that the very same year Queen Victoria celebrated her Diamond Jubilee. Hopkins and his crew began the production in November, so the first fillings could be stamped with the Queen's year. The god trickster Murphy made sure everything went wrong and the team managed to fill just one butt before January 1. Production is much better these days and the Single Malt with Granty Burn water source in its DNA is the ninth best selling Single Malt in America. Speyburn is both a wonderful intro to the world of Scotch or a delightful dram for seasoned buffs.

This particular expression of a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky spent fifteen years in American oak and Spanish oak casks. Its character is pure Speyside and is incredibly drinkable. It won a silver medal at the International Wine & Spirits Competition 2017, and they were correct! If you loved Bradan Orach, it offers a similar flavor profile, with more depth and complexity.

Apple on the nose. Surprising spice with traditional scotch flavor. Nice long warm finish.

Lars
Lars,
Very deep speyside whisky with clear sugar tones, deep flavor and slight dark chocolate. The last slight disappears after the first glimpse. Very enjoyable and a good whisky for starters.

Smooth and lot of flavor.

Complex with a smooth finish. God blend of flavors- easy to drink

Antti
Antti,
It is an outstanding, complex, Single Malt Scotch Whisky that has an aromatic birth; while a rich & spicy life leads to a long & creamy death with notes of brown sugar, honeycomb, dried banana chips, caramel, apple cider, flamed orange peel & pear.

Roy
Roy,
Nice but not as complex or deep in flavour as I would have expected for the age (and price).

Petri
Petri,
Great flavour profile and very nice finish.

Arnaud
Arnaud,
Good taste but really don't worth the price (my taste)

Gerald
Gerald,
Nice flavor but not a great finish.

Daniel
Daniel,
The sweet and fruity flavours do come through nicely, I am not fond of the development and the after taste.

Shannon
Shannon,
Not as smooth as I expected from a 15 year old.

John
John,
Good scotch, but I prefer bourbon. The notes of honey and raisin are strong and the orange finish is really nice. I somehow do not taste the dark chocolate.

Tyson
Tyson,
I love the finish but not a big fan of the initial flavor. But it is refreshing and smooth.

STEPHEN
STEPHEN,
This is a solid scotch. Smooth, moderately peety, honey

Joe
Joe,
Delicious with the right amount of smoke and flavor. Smooth but complex. Very enjoyable.

Lawrence
Lawrence,
Sharp. Chocolate undertones. Medium finish

Melissa
Melissa,
Lovely, rich, dessert scotch. Very warm and balanced. Nice smoke flavor makes it feel like “Scotch” but the richness is wonderful and surprising.

Maurizio
Maurizio,
Great dram! Sweet and spicy on the palate. Long lasting and warm finish. Like the smoke and the modern - more aggressive - style. Bringing Speyside Whisky a step forward.

Martin
Martin,
The view is a nice amber tone with the initial nosing of spice and honey with bits of fruit. Tasting reveals some hints of cocoa, honey, a bit of pear, orange and some caramel. A thick sweet flavor that lingers. The flavor gets a bit heavier after the second /third tasting. I enjoyed this “chewable” flavor.

Mathew
Mathew,
Almost too sweet, with a big thick honey like opening followed up by a spicy fiery kick. Hints of smoke and fruit in the finish. I almost wish it were drier.

Collin
Collin,
Tastes like a generic Speyside scotch, and I don’t mean that in a negative way. The smoke is secondary to the fruity flavors, which is enjoyable, but nothing exemplary about the taste.

Soren
Soren,
Very typical but very nice Speyside whisky

Michael
Michael,
Was a bit sweet for my tastes but very smooth and well crafted.

Ryan
Ryan,
Raisin prominent on the nose, with a citrus and spice undertone. Initially spice forward on the taste and then comes the citrus. The longer I sipped the more spice I detected and some smoke. Not bad, but did not stand out.
