Wearing the colors of the U.S.A., this is a rye-forward Straight Bourbon that's savory beyond its years.

One night in 2004 after a long day of work, Jonathan Hensleigh stumbled into an Eagle Rock, California, bar owned by Aaron Chepenik. The two men struck up a friendship over a love of Spirits and decided to open a bar together — The Griffin, located on the famous Freemont Street in old-town Las Vegas. They soon saw an opportunity to craft their own signature Spirits made the right way. They launched Nevada H&C Distilling Company, producing Silver Dollar Vodka and a range of Smoke Wagon Bourbons.

We don’t usually start these things by talking about the awards, but this is an exception. Smoke Wagon Straight Bourbon Whiskey was just awarded the Double Gold Medal at the 2020 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. "Double Gold" means that it was the unanimous choice of the judges. The flavor was developed by using barrels that were racked on the top two floors of the warehouse. The higher the floors, the hotter the heat, which opens the wood pores, so more flavor enters their rye-forward Spirit. This 4th of July edition proudly wears the colors of the U. S. A. and celebrates its independence with bold American flavors.

Bourbon Is a ''new barrel Spirit'': One of the legal requirements for Bourbon is that it only be aged in brand new oak charred barrels.
At any given time, there are more barrels of Bourbon in Kentucky than there are people. The population of the Bluegrass State is about 4.4 million. Today there are more than 5 million barrels of Bourbon sitting in the rick-houses of that Old Kentucky Home. That’s nearly 300 bottles of Bourbon per person, or about 60 gallons each.

Pinhooking means purchasing and rearing a foal based on its pedigree and either selling it or turning it into a champ racing horse. The same idea is behind Pinhook Bourbon: they source young Whiskey to mature and blend it into a blue-ribbon sipping Bourbon.

Bourbon must be made from a grain mixture that is at least 51% corn.
Bourbons have very prominent notes of vanilla, as American White Oak is naturally high in vanillins.
Bourbon matures quicker than Scotch due to higher temperatures in American warehouses.
