This isn't a brand of the Duffman!

Dufftown distillery was started in 1896 by two Liverpudlian entrepreneurs, in self-proclaimed Malt Whisky Capital of the World. The Speyside region, where Dufftown in located, is widely revered for world-class quality drams. That can be attributed to the fertile triangle of land between mountains and the sea, known as the Garden of Scotland. Also in the pure, crystal-clear water, the quality of which is so great that is has been the object of rivalry.

The newest brand of Dufftown distilleries is the Singleton. The depth of its flavour is achieved through longer fermentation and slower distillation. It is aged for 12 years in American and European casks, which were used for ageing bourbon and sherry, respectively.

The Singleton of Duffton will appeal to first timers and veterans alike.

90% of all Scotch Whisky released in the market is a blend. That’s a hell of a lot.
Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made in Scotland using a pot still distillation process at a single distillery, with malted barley as the only grain ingredient. It must be matured in oak casks in Scotland for at least three years (most Single Malts are matured longer, though).
Like Deanston, Dufftown was not built to be a distillery. It was a grain mill that they converted into a distillery, when the milling business was slow.
Single malt stands for around 10% of the Scotch market. This is a malt containing only one grain, legally required to be barley in Scotland, and made at a single distillery.

A blended Scotch is a combination of different malts from different distilleries. It is typically made from grain Whisky but does include malt Whisky to give it a more complex body.
Blended Whiskies are the result of years of craftsmanship and dedication. A master blender does not simply wake up one day with a profound ability to create a cohesive and enjoyable liquid. From nosing the liquid to working out quantities of each different grain and malt to go into the blend, a master blender can take years, if not decades, to train.
Whisky distilling goes way back to 1494 when the first recorded batch was made by a posse of monks who acquired about 60 gallons of barley and decided to turn it into "aqua vitae". They created the first 1,500 bottles of Scotch in History.
