An exceptionally floral Gin with a lovely countenance and intricate botanical infusions.
Silent Pool Distillers was founded by Ian McCulloch in 2013 in the picturesque hills country around Surrey Hills, England, on Duke of Northumberland’s Albury Estate. Ian was a former media and TV executive, and that creativity shows through in their branding and refreshing Spirits. Their products range from innovative Gins, Vodka, Eau de Vies, and specialty Liqueurs.
Silent Pool Gin is hand-crafted from 24 botanicals delivered via a three-stage infusion process. The process starts with a neutral, grain-based Spirit. A portion of the "heavier" botanicals are bruised and macerated in this Spirit before the second distillation — including Bosnian juniper berries, licorice root, cassia bark, orris, and bergamot. The second "lighter" set of botanical are infused basket-style during the second distillation as the vapors pass through — including fresh orange and lime zest, dried pears, Macedonian juniper, and Polish angelica. Finally, the "delicates" are infused in the final Spirit "tea style" — including rose petals, kaffir lime leaves, linden flowers, and elderflower. It’s bottled at a very pleasant 43% ABV.
Smartass Corner:
The Silent Pool is a pond next to the distillery with a notorious legend around it. Hundreds of years ago, it is said that the daughter of a local farmer was bathing in the water when Prince John came upon her by accident. He pursued her amorously, scaring her to the middle of the pond where she drowned.
