Shefford Manor is an actual place in Quebec. It was a hunting lodge near the part of Lake Champlain that crosses the border into Canada.
Legend has it that the owner of this hunting lodge supplemented his income by setting up a small still at his lodge, and treating visitors from the United States who just happened to drop by for a visit during Prohibition.
Business was brisk, so he ramped up production and may or may not have encouraged smuggling. Shefford Manor Canadian Whisky is a newer brand whose marketing is based upon this local story.
It is a three-year old Canadian Rye that is listed as distilled at the Shefford Manor Distillery by most sources. However we have been unable to confirm the existence of this distillery. We suspect that it is a private bottling from another production house. Little additional information is available.
