Sean Hallman
is a former Naval Surface Warfare Officer who had a second career as civilian employee for the Navy. His wife Lisa Ireland is a High School teacher. Sean was a home brewer who had the opportunity to join a friend in the distilling business. When the friend bowed out, the husband and wife duo jumped in with their own incorporated ideas and Shadow Ridge Spirits Company was born — in Oceanside, California, of all places. They have developed a range of four Whiskies, two Rums, a brand new Gin, and more to come.

Shadow Ridge Hallman Rye Whiskey has a unique mash bill that seems to reflect Sean’s experience as a brewer — rye, wheat, Vienna malt, and crystal malt. Vienna malt is kiln-dried to a medium roast level and brings biscuity flavors. Crystal malt is a traditional British barley malt that is not kiln-dried before roasting that brings more sweetness. The wheat brings a solid smoothness to the party. The Spirit is aged in small casks. The result is a bright, caramel-forward Rye with a good dose of spice in the throat at 45% ABV.
