The Cognac makers have gone rogue.

Rum made by a family of Cognac makers may strike you as an odd release but this is no ordinary Cognac family. Jérôme and Lilian are the fourth generation of master distillers from the Tessendier family. Widely regarded as masters in Cognac since the family established production in 1880, this really is an exciting newcomer to the world of Rum. Jérôme and Lilian’s expertise allow them to blend over 300 different varieties of Cognac into their products every single year so it’s safe to say they deserve a chance to experiment with a different Spirit.

Saison or Season Rum brings together varieties of Rum from three locations: Barbados, Jamaica, and Trinidad. By focusing on the unique benefits of the Rum created by each region and storing the product in Cognac barrels for a final 9-12 months, this really is a Rum with a few stories to tell. The balanced caramel and coconut notes of Barbados work alongside the more exotic, fruit flavors of Jamaica, while the lightness of Trinidad Rum brings everything together. Despite being their first Rum, The Tessendiers have not been willing to play safe and this could quite soon be a Rum that everybody is talking about.

What does Saison Rum taste like?

The Flavor Spiral™ shows the most common flavors that you'll taste in Saison Rum and gives you a chance to have a taste of it before actually tasting it.

We invented Flavor Spiral™ here at Flaviar to get all your senses involved in tasting drinks and, frankly, because we think that classic tasting notes are boring.

Stephen
Stephen,
Pretty good rum, but I would agree with some of the other comments that the flavor profile didn’t match what I experienced. No real coconut flavor, which in my opinion is a good thing. Mild lingering aftertaste, not too sweet. Would be good mixed or straight.

David
David,
Amber color in a Glencairn. Nose of tropical notes, brown sugar, typical dark rum nose. More alcohol comes out after swirling. Beautiful brown sugar and tropical fruit (esp Juicy Fruit) palate. Hint of mint toward the end with dried fruit building and building. Not sickly sweet, but definitely on the way. Slight bitterness on the finish that brings out peaches. Medium body with medium rims leading to thin, syrupy legs.

Bradley
Bradley,
It wasn’t bad. It’s a rum. But the flavor profile didn’t match the flavor. I didn’t taste coconut, spice was a strong flavor. Didn’t taste the fruit.

Gary
Gary,
Bites like a whiskey and over powers everything else.

Scott
Scott,
Some sweetness, peach flavors. A young tasting rum. Would work well in tropical cocktails.

Maarten
Maarten,
Really harsh flavour. Expected something a little more fruity according to the flavor spiral but it didn't deliver.

Maurizio
Maurizio,
Nuts and oak. No fruit and unusually rough.

Wyatt
Wyatt,
The nutty flavor is very strong, to the point that it overwhelms the rest of the flavor. That being said, if you enjoy the nutty taste, you’ll love this.

Huba
Huba,
Really nutty but also fruity, liked it pretty much.

Jeremy
Jeremy,
Just not that good. Bitter and conflicting flavors. Sits in the mouth for a while too, but not in a good way.

jill,
First whiff is very fruity. Agree with others that it’s dry. Overall, an ok mixing rum not sipping

Jill
Jill,
too harsh for my tastes. Definitely a mixer and not a sipping rum

Barbara
Barbara,
Carmel notes but dry and too much alcohol bite.

John
John,
Dry finish. Tastes like stale cake.

sheldon
sheldon,
Meh. Would be a good description. Nothing stands out.

Mikel
Mikel,
Would be better if a tad higher alcohol percentage and a tad older. It is a rather lightweight sweetness to it that is still enjoyable.

Matthew
Matthew,
Smooth up front, with a lingering bitterness. Sweet. I get more of the caramel than the fruits. Easy to sip.

Antti
Antti,
It is a very good, intense, dark rum with an exotic birth; while a nutty & sweet life; leads to a fruity death of medium length.

Deja
Deja,
Nope.

Jennifer

Kevin
Kevin,
Very nice. Has a fruity sweet that is nicely refreshing from the sugar sweet you usually taste.

Katherine

Very interesting and well balanced. The spice plays well with the fruitiness.

Raoul
