Sagamore Rye Whiskey is a Rye-Apple-Rye Whiskey delight.
Like nearly all new Spirits companies, for the first few years Sagamore Spirits purchased custom formulated distillate from other production facilities. It’s just about the only way to get started these days. But last year they moved production to their new, private distillery with a very nice visitor center in Baltimore, Maryland. Cheers to them! The name comes from the Sagamore Farm limestone spring water used to cut their Whiskey to proof. They produce a range of seven award-winning, all-American Rye Whiskeys and you should try them all because they’re mighty good stuff.
Sagamore Spirit is known for their Rye Whiskey. They are also known for their experimentation with specialty finishing techniques. Sagamore Spirit Rye Calvados Finish is their signature Rye (a blend of two MGP Spirits) finished in Calvados casks for nearly a year. The interesting thing about this combination is that the Rye spice and Calvados crispness transforms the natural fruit and bread flavors of Rye Whiskey into a cinnamon apple tart profile under the vanilla, oak, anise and toffee notes. It’s a dram of autumn in the Springtime at 50.6% ABV.
