Sagamore delivers a serious Rye Whiskey with the influence of a Manhattan cocktail.
Like nearly all new Spirits companies, for the first few years Sagamore Spirit purchased custom formulated distillate from other production facilities. It’s just about the only way to get started these days. But last year they moved production to their new, private distillery with a very nice visitor center in Baltimore, Maryland. Cheers to them! The name comes from the Sagamore Farm limestone spring water used to cut their Whiskey to proof. They produce a range of seven award-winning, all-American Rye Whiskies and you should try them all because they’re mighty good stuff.
OK… this is interesting. Sagamore Spirit is thinking outside the bottle here. This is NOT a bottled cocktail. This is a powerful Rye Whiskey with all that that entails. But what they’ve done is to finish their signature Rye in barrels that aged Spirits and flavors that contribute to the making of a classic Manhattan cocktail.
Sagamore Spirit Distiller's Select Manhattan Finish Rye has been aged four-to-five years in oak and then finished in Vermouth, bitters, and Cherry Brandy casks. So, you have the influence of these flavors in every sip, but it’s totally NOT like drinking a cocktail. And since it’s bottled at a robust 51.5% ABV. This cocktail-influenced Spirit is ready for the prime time.
