Member Reviews and Ratings of Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon Whiskey
Nathan,
Very smooth, one favorites to have on the shelf.
Esben,
Great whiskey.
Peter,
Hint of cinnamon, long vanilla finish. Good spice, and well rounded.
David,
Love it, great candy apple finish and the nose doesnt have the citrus/dill I get on some Wild Turkey products
guest,
Great taste all the way through!
Adam,
Heavy spice taste but is surprisingly smooth, has a long vanillesq after taste with the long hint of cinnamon. Overall very good
Tyler,
Licorice, caramel, cinnamon, clove, oak. Hugely complex, and hides the alcohol content well. Outstanding.
Bryce,
This is a great whiskey, though I wish it were $10 cheaper. Against WT Rare Breed ($49 in NC), or Knob Single ($50) it is not worth the extra cash. But, still a wonderful Single Barrel. Far far better than the Russells 10 year. I also get Henry McKenna SB in NC for around $40 (when available) which is at least as good as this bottle. If the price is not that important to you, and if you love bourbon, you'll love this bottle. I think the flavor spiral is right, though I get more apple and honey than the spices.
Burton,
Reminds me of cherry pastry. Easy drinking. Mellow considering its proof. Warm and long finish. Nothing to dislike.
guest,
Great bourbon.
Joshua,
Love it! One of the most flavourful single barrels I've had from Wild Turkey
Jeffery,
This is the 10 year old.
Nice dark honey color.
Long warm finish.
Nick,
I found a group pick that was excellent. Well above average bourbon that'd be an excellent daily or special occasion sipper if that's in your budget.
Nose: Vanilla icing, cinnamon, molasses
Palate: Cinnamon, oak, dark cherry
Finish: Cinnamon spice
Bryan,
Got a store pick bottle, that came from warehouse F, was amazing, one of my new favorites.
John,
My go to sipping bourbon. Smooth and oaky with vanilla and caramel hints. Also good for cocktails with its higher ABV.
Mike,
If you’re looking for a smooth bourbon, look no further. It is a flavor-filled bourbon and the perfect nightcap.
Todd,
Named for legendary Master Distiller Jimmy Russell (and son Eddie Russell). These bottles are the result of “honey barrel” picks. Impeccably balanced, redolent in toffee and creamy vanilla. It’s a nuanced, thoughtful bourbon that drinks easier than you would expect for the proof, often with lovely fruit notes of apple or stone fruit, delicate spice/tobacco and honeyed sweetness.
Andres,
Smooth and hot
Dustin,
Overall very smooth, especially for a little higher proof. Finishes without burn.
Randy,
Love it. Can't afford to drink regularly.
Tom,
Love it. I had the standard at it was very good. I have 3 store picks that will blow your mind. All of that Turkey funk I love. This is a great Whiskey!
Robbie,
Caramel with hints of vanilla.
Richard,
This is the most complex whiskey I've ever had. Spicy cinnamon on the front end, oaky in the middle and smooth vanilla sweetness at the end. Amazing whiskey for the price.
Bret,
Been meaning to try this for a while. Glad I finally got to it. Very smooth. Nice mouth feel with vanilla, caramel and a bit of nutty apeal. Great finish, not as spicey as I like, but still great. A definite bottle to keep on your shelf.
Karl,
my new favorite
Richard,
Best Wild Turkey product. A little bit of everything: sweet, nutty, oak. Perfect amount of heat. Near the top of my bourbon list.
Alex,
Love it, vanilla notes and a nice heat too it.
Dick,
This is my go to when I feel I deserve one of the best pours in my inventory. Classic bourbon flavors with a wonderful nose
Kyle,
CWS Store Pick in 2019. Great daily sipper bottle for the price!
Erik,
Fantastic bottle of bourbon, despite being 110 proof it does not drink that hot at all, full of flavor with cherries and sweetness and spice.
Greg,
Sandalwood, marzipan, apple and corn (especially with water).
The spice drowns out most of the notes for me. Not an interesting blend for me.
Rusty,
A great everyday sipper!
guest,
Not my fav. A drop of water opens up a bit, harsh without
Chris,
My bottle is from a barrel (#19-0238, rickhouse CN-F, floor 060501) selected by a local liquor store, Martin Wine Cellar. I get a lot of cinnamon, vanilla, and a lot of heat. Great for sipping.
Alan,
Good rye but there are better for the price.
Lisa,
Just right with a couple of ice cubes
guest,
Single Barrel Store Pick. Really enjoying my first glass.
Athanasios,
Very spicy
Logan,
Barrel pick with powerful honey and citrus initially followed by a significant oak and vanilla finish. One of my favorites
Sean,
Very smooth, and flavor spiral very similar to that described here. Purchased for $46, so good at this price.
guest,
A fantastic every day drinker. Smooth and affordable.
Matthew,
Nose is full of toffee. First sip is sweet toffee followed by oak. Strong spicy finish, as is to be expected at 110 proof. Adding a few drops of water smooths out the mouthfeel and opens up notes of vanilla and cinnamon.
Ben,
Does this bourbon taste like the Fourth of July? Is it like a liquid apple pie? Is it perfectly balanced between sweetness and strength? If you answered yes to any of those questions you might be one of many lucky drinkers swallowing Russel's Reserve Single Barrel.
James,
A bit of a bite.
guest,
Great bottle for the price you can definitely taste vanilla and honey followed by a slight burn!!
Joe,
Hint of sweetness, very good!
Lauren,
Recommended by a friend, wow. I finally found a competitor to my Blanton’s. Strong first sip that resonates into a subtle sweet cherry vanilla finish that comfortably lingers for a warm finish.
Robert,
The best damn Rum that has slid down this throat in a long time....as Pappy said, "leave it on the tongue for a while."
Lewis,
I can keep drinking this until the cows come home.
Heather,
Very good
Alan,
great whiskey very smooth finish
KEVIN,
THIS IS SINGLE BARREL SELECTION FOR THE STORE I MANAGE, BUT I DIDN'T TAKE PART IN THE PICK. VERY UNIQUE AND COMPLEX COMPARED TO OTHER RUSSEL'S I'VE HAD. REALLY DEEP SWEETNESS, CHERRY, BARREL, SPICE.
Todd,
This is one of my favorites with plenty of flavor that makes you want to savor every sip. Cinnamon and wood taste really comes through. I wish more bars had this since it is hard to find when I'm traveling.
Jeremy,
Way over rated
Scott,
A good whiskey
John,
Sweet and spicy with a woody taste.
David,
Spicey
Michael,
Beautiful oak, cinnamon, and vanilla. The oak is really prevalent on the palate, but fantastic.
Nancy,
Most excellent, very smooth and a nice aftertaste. Great in a Manhattan as well.
Chris,
Pretty strong stuff with nice afterburn
Todd,
This is my favorite whisky hands down and not too hard on the pocket book which is an awesome combination.
Matthew,
Without a doubt, my new go to bourbon for relaxing by the fire pit, listening to Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong sweep me away.
Yes, it’s strong... 110 Proof Strong!! But not harsh, sharp, or too powerful. The smell is sweet and classy, while the flavor is prominent and burley.
I take this neat. While it never burns, it definitely gets the point across.
Benjamin,
Very good, cinnamon comes through pretty nicely and can taste vanilla pretty well. Definitely want to have with ice or a splash of water otherwise might bite a bit hard.
Allen,
When I want whiskey that has a sharp bite and doesn't kid around, this is what I reach for. I think of it as the Waylon Jennings of bourbon--challenging, evocative, not for everybody (certainly not beginners). Pepper mingles with toffee as I savor the lingering taste in my throat and mouth between slow sips.
Matt,
Great bourbon neat, or on the rocks. Very smooth and drinkable. Will absolutely buy again.
Kevin,
Excellent bourbon! Sweet with a cinnamon/spice finish.
Kyle,
Enjoyable on all levels.
Ro,
Great bourbon.
Danton,
Proof is high but profile of of subtle notes make this a good slow rocks drink.
Spencer,
Has a great initial spice, and a subtle honey finish. Really smooth and drinkable.
