A Bourbon bounded in a family bond like no other.

Russell’s Reserve was born in 2000 out of a close relationship between father and son, Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame Master Distillers Jimmy & Eddie Russell. There is an indelible bond forged in Bourbon, with more than 101 years of combined Whiskey mastery between them. Family is in Russell’s Reserve’s DNA. It’s crafted by a family, it’s named after a family, and is meant to bring more outsider Bourbon aficionados to the family.

The new Russell’s Reserve 13 Year Old is a tribute to the distillery’s heritage and the legacy pioneered by Eddie’s father, Jimmy Russell. It showcases Eddie’s talents and expertise to develop flavors through careful aging and a nose for identifying the highest quality barrels.

It is a thoughtfully crafted expression, aged for a minimum of 13 years, reaching a barrel proof of 114.8 and promising a distinctive, rich, warm flavor best enjoyed right out of the bottle.

"Crafting Russell’s Reserve 13-year-old turned out to be one of my most rewarding experiences as a distiller. This release embodies our commitment to creating uniquely satisfying flavors, and, hands down, it’s one of our most rare Bourbons." — Eddie Russell.

Bourbons are very high in vanilla, as American White Oak is naturally high in vanillins.

Speaking of breeding winner horses, two of Pinhook’s co-founders have horseracing in their DNA. Jamie Hill and Mike McMahon continue the tradition of their families as third-generation horsemen, owning a bloodstock agency and a thoroughbred racing company. Applying that knowledge to Whiskey just made sense.

During the fire of 2000, more than 900,000 gallons of Whiskey caught fire and spilled, setting a local forest on fire, poisoning a local stream, and saturating local limestone deposits with flaming alcohol, causing them to explode.
Bourbon must be made from a grain mixture that is at least 51% corn.

Pinhooking means purchasing and rearing a foal based on its pedigree and either selling it or turning it into a champ racing horse. The same idea is behind Pinhook Bourbon: they source young Whiskey to mature and blend it into a blue-ribbon sipping Bourbon.

J.B.'s father, Joseph W. Dant, invented a still made from a poplar log at 16, as he couldn't afford a copper still. Although crude, it worked exceptionally well!
