Rum Nation Peruano 8 Year Old Rum
(0.7l, 42%)
Born in Peru, Solera-aged, and bottled by a gifted Italian.
Ironically, Rum Nation was started in 1999 when Italian founder Fabio Rossi went to Scotland. Rossi had been importing Whisky for his independent line of single malts called Wilson & Morgan and it was on a distillery visit in 1990 that he first sampled Rum sent to age in Scotland. He liked what he tasted. Years after this visit Rum Nation was born, and Fabio has been acquiring spirit and bottling his line of Caribbean Rums ever since — naming each release after its place of origin.
There are two things you need to know about Rum Nation Peruano 8 YO. The first is that “Peruano” translates as “Peruvian” — so you know that this is made from sugarcane molasses raised and distilled about as close to the equator as you can get. The second thing you need to know is that — even though 8 years is a very respectable age for Caribbean Rum — Rum Nation Peruano is aged by the Solera method, which means that 8 years is the “youngest” Rum in the bottle. So this tasty Rum has the complexity and depth of a far older spirit.
Smartass Corner
Fabio Rossi himself likes this Rum paired with a fine cigar. He recommends a Cuban Montecristo no.4.

Rum (usually) comes from molasses; the sweet and syrupy residue left behind after sugar crystals are extracted from sugar cane juice. Molasses is over 50% sugar, but it also contains significant amounts of minerals and other trace elements, which can contribute to the final flavour.
