From the world capital of Rye to Flaviar Community, with love.

George Ross founded Rossville Distillery in 1847. Aside from a brief switch to industrial production during Prohibition, it has been producing fine Spirits continuously since then. Through a series of mergers and acquisitions it has been owned by Seagram’s, Pernod Ricard, and others over the years. But since 2011 it has been the flagship of MGP — one of the largest producers of Whiskey, Gin, and other Spirits.

MGP is one of America's last Prohibition-era distilleries that has been producing bold Ryes since 1847 – making Indiana the Rye capital of the world. The Rossville Union line of Rye Whiskeys is bringing back the golden age of Rye; it's a ryenaissance, if you will. As you might have guessed from the name, Rossville Union Single Barrel Flaviar Community is a special Flaviar Community affair. With a mash bill of 51% rye and 49% barley malt, barrel No. 504 was aged in oak casks and bottled at a respectful 113.5 proof. Expect to be swept off your feet by flavors of malt, caramel, vanilla, and char.

George Washington famously loved his Rye Whiskey. In fact, after he served as the first president of the United States, he returned to his farm at Mount Vernon and started a small Rye distillery of his own.
Rye sparked the first revolution after the American Independence. It was called the Whiskey Rebellion, and it arose when the government tried to tax Whiskey and enforce the taxation on distillers. The lesson here? Don't mess with a Whiskey drinker's dram.
Rye - think of it as Bourbon's edgier cousin. It’s known for what many call a spicy or fruity flavor. Rye (distilled from at least 51% Rye) is not on the sweet side and tends to have a spicier body. That’s why the character of a cocktail made from Rye, instead of Bourbon, is drier.
A decade ago there were only 6 brands of Rye Whiskey hailing from Kentucky, nowadays there are more than 50!
In November of 2015, MGP announced its first ever house brand — Metze’s Select Indiana Straight Whiskey. It is a blend of their high-Rye Bourbons, named after the Master Distiller who retired that year. It is not yet available on the market.
