Refreshing Greek Elixir for hot summer afternoons.

Roots Spirits is a bold and fresh company founded in 2013, when two Greek brothers Manos and Nikolas decided to go back to their roots, find the best Spirits their history has to offer, and bring them to us in an exciting new form. Four Root liquors are handcrafted and based on ancient herbal remedies dating back to the middle of the 19th century, using natural native ingredients of Greece. In just a few years, Roots potions conquered the best bars in London, Athens, Rome, and Paris. Each Spirit has its own story.

One of the traditional jazzed up Spirits is Roots Mastic, a refurbished Liqueur from the Greek island of Chios, a transparent beverage flavored with mastic distillate (a resin known as the "Tears of Chios"). It only grows there, and it was even mentioned by Herodotus and Hippocrates for its medicinal use, and the Romans were absolutely nuts about it. This spirited Liqueur is an aromatic explosion of elegant and refreshing scents, taking you straight to the picturesque island in the Aegean Sea. It's served cold and perfect with a fresh lime slice or pour good old tonic in it and refresh your summer afternoons.

Ratings & Reviews
If you're not sure what mastic tastes like you may not like this, but for being a lover of all things resin myself, it was very well executed. Aromatics are like a classic gentlemen's cologne, but the flavor is well balanced. Just enough sweetness to bring out the pine and resin notes. Very good over ice without messing with it further, although I'm sure is would work well as the aromatic in a Manhattan.
I like the Greek wines aged in containers sealed with pitch, retsina for example. This has a similar tang, resinous, piney, and is mildly sweet to boot. I sip neat. This is a domestic version of Mastiha, derived from the tree that provides the essence.
This is a very interesting spirit. I usually steer clear of sweet libations, but this intrigued me so I had to try it. I think it would be nice to sip on after dinner, but it's also very refreshing with club soda (or sparkling water) and lemon. I'm going to have to try some other concoctions with this, though, and see what I come up with.
A friend introduced me to this unique and tasty spirit. Based on tree sap, this sweet, pine essenced liqueur is nice to sip neat. On some levels it reminds me of the Greek wines retsina and roditas. I'll get more...
A sweet, pine flavor with lavender. Intriguing mixer and good chilled with lemon peel or mixed with ting soda. Good fun.
Bought some in Athens for the first time. Really lovely, looking for more!
