The worm is real!

El Recuerdo de Oaxaca Mezcal is produced by Casa Armando Guillermo Prieto in Oaxaca, Mexico. If you’re into MMA fighting, you’ve probably heard of this premium Mezcal brand because of its ambassador MMA Fighter Jorge Masvidal who launched the brand in the US. Made at a leading, innovative and socially responsible company with its own mezcal-making estate, five generations of Mezcal-making skills go into this kosher, animal-cruelty free, and certified clean for environmental protection Mezcal. Following a Metodo Verde Program that protects biodiversity, these guys get most of the energy needed from solar sources and the distillery has its own waste water treatment plant, greenhouses, and 4 traditional brick ovens.

El Recuerdo Abocado con Gusano Mezcal is a traditional Mezcal that’s enriched with an agave worm for an extra silky texture. Yes, the myth is true, just not for Tequila – only Mezcals can contain the agave worm! What does it mean for the flavors? The sweet cooked agave, bitter notes, and delicate smoke flavors literally melt on your tongue thanks to the silky smooth surface. To truly appreciate the layers added by the worm, sip it neat!

While Mezcal is produced all across Mexico, most of the Mezcal we see is produced in the state of Oaxaca. Interestingly, over 70% of Mezcal is made from the Espadín agave—even though more than 20 types of agave are used to make Mezcal.
All Tequila is Mezcal, but not all Mezcal is Tequila.

Espadín. That word means “sword” in Spanish because the leaves look like a mass of swords projecting out of the plant. Espadín Mezcals are most common because it has been the easiest agave to cultivate.
