Top reviews for Ranger Creek .44 Rye:

— Loved it

— Lots of spice. Delicious

— Super “clean barrel” tasting. Like freshly cut wood with pores ready to suck in the whisky as it ages. I really like it and got it in my tasting box. Was my favorite of the three tasters. I think maybe some people don’t rate it as highly because they want something that is more in-family with what they expect. I, however, found this one unique but in a good way.

Patrick
Patrick,
The clove and nutmeg slapped me like my ma’ma did when I got my smart mouth. Spicy kicked in like the sting that followed. Umm...no. Doesn’t really mix well with 7-Up either and that’s my favorite mixer. Not the best aftertaste either

William
William,
Wow - hate this. Really funky taste - almost like you can taste the raw grains. Too sweet with weird palette

Nathan
Nathan,
Youthful. I was looking forward to trying this offering. I think it has a lot of potential but it needs more time in the barrel.

Mike
Mike,
Fine, but not something I’d go looking for.

David
David,
Not a fan.

Cloyd
Cloyd,
bitter, funky

Tim
Tim,
Strong Fruity nose. Apple? Spicy, mouth-coating hit. Has that triple-distilled Irish whisky flavor. Bit harsh.

Stephen
Stephen,
A nice bouquet of flavors

Adam
Adam,
Loved it

Jonathan
Jonathan,
Leaves a terrible aftertaste, it tastes like fire. it's got a harsh burn to it, and smells like a burn your rocks of whiskey. Not mature enough to be a sipping whiskey mixed with coke 1:1 results: The mixer definitely milds out the burn, and allows a different flavor profile to emerge. Very cinnamon heavy, enough cinnamon to knock you out cold, and make some french toast for a drunchie snack. Hints of apple, reminds me of a fall day. Will have to try with some warm apple cider, or possibly use in place of redwine for mulled cider. Great idea, weak execution. This is definitely a small caliber whiskey

Alan
Alan,
Didn't like it

Mark
Mark,
Smells like shoe leather.

Franklin
Franklin,
Love the spicy and caramel notes. Great first taste and finish which I enjoyed. After continuing to drink, it left a bad aftertaste which worsened the experience.

Jake
Jake,
I’m sure some people love it but it’s too spicy for me! Great tobacco finish but I hate the start! My wife says it’s a combo between your grandpas whisky and a used menthol cigarette from a tray in Vegas! I don’t think it’s that bad, but I’m not a fan.

Jeff
Jeff,
Loved it. Smooth and apple/cinnamon aftertaste.

Timothy
Timothy,
Spicy notes, smooth drinking.

Antti
Antti,
It is a complex, Texas Rye Whiskey that has an aromatic birth; while a bold life leads to a long & complex death with a hint of bread crust & caramel.

Bradley
Bradley,
The worst. So gross. Still trying to get the taste off my tongue with a grill brush days later.

Jerome
Jerome,
This was a good drink with very strong flavors and odors of Nutmeg and Clove and possibly tobacco. I didn't taste the mint. The smell was intriguing, it reminded me of places I've been.

David
David,
Like drinking paint thinner

Chris
Chris,
Very similar to gin.

Ken
Ken,
Strong flavor, can’t really place it. Not my favorite rye though I’m not really used to taking it outside of an old fashioned.

Graham
Graham,
Spicy.

Steven
Steven,
Wow super astringent nose, follow up botanical flavors that basically make this a Bombay Sapphire version of Bourbon. Ultimately thought was disgusting because I'm not a gin fan.

Matthew
Matthew,
OK my first rating done here and the first Rye too I have seriously tried to drink. It was in the tasting sample and took it first as it was the lowest rating. I am surprised I liked it. I smell spice and faint cinnamon. It’s oily and has a slight burn back of the throat, but warm and has a bread feeling on the tongue. Overall very pleasant for me. I wouldn’t buy a bottle, but I would not pass on a dram either if offered.

Roland
Roland,
Spicy and cinnamon off the bat. I’m not a big cinnamon fan. Wasn’t bad but I’m not likely to get a whole bottle.

Ken
Ken,
Hot and spicy

Colton
Colton,
Very hot and spicy, lot of toffee and cinnamon

Steve
Steve,
I give this an ehhhh rating. Its smooth and easy to drink, but im not loving the flavor, definitely wouldn't purchase a bottle.

Oshen
Oshen,
This was to hot and strong for our likening. Not very drinkable without mixing.

Paul
Paul,
This was on the down side of OK. I still haven't finished the tasting that I received. I would not buy a bottle of this. To be fair, I'm not much of a rye drinker, but they sent it, so I tried it and I'm rating it.

Christopher
Christopher,
On the nose I get Playdough, rye grass, and Redhots candy. Used to 100+ proof stuff so it doesn't give off any burn on the nose. A little sweet caramel scent. To be labeled as a rye (couldn't find the mash bill online) this has no rye spice I'm used to detecting. I can definitely taste the rye grass, but nothing else going on. Finishes dry, no spice. Third favorite in the Texan Spirit tasting box.

Lance
Lance,
Didn’t enjoy this at all. 2 sips was all I could take. Aroma is enjoyable. Personally the aroma reminds me of sweet tea. Flavor wasn’t at all enjoyable to me.

Tom
Tom,
Spicy beginnings, but changes to a smooth experience with a sweeter finish. No discernible burn. I would definitely drink this whiskey but I wouldn’t purchase it for my own bar. There are other finer choices in Rye.

William
William,
Too spicy for me.

Jeffrey
Jeffrey,
I am new to this. Usually just a casual drinker. Unfortunately for this review, I do not like rye whiskey. The aroma was pleasing, but like the label says, It's definitely Rye Whiskey. I don't like the aftertaste of rye whiskey.

James
James,
Not usually a Rye kind of guy, but this wasn't bad. I like the cinnamon coming through. This came with the Alamo Black Label Bourbon which I wasn't too keen on. This is definitely a step up in my book. The cinnamon lingers for a bit, or is it the clove, not unpleasant.

Russell
Russell,
On the first sniff I found fruit notes. After a couple of sips the nose shifted to more cinnamon and bread dough. There is definitely a lot of the familiar rye spice on the palate. The finish was doughy and warm.

Jared
Jared,
The first taste was not great. Very spicy! However, I had a beer after the first taste and came back. I Found very pleasant sweet notes and it was very good on the second taste.

Scott
Scott,
Never been a Rye drinker. Not bad but has that rye after taste.

Stephen
Stephen,
I love rye whiskey, I love mint. I do NOT love mint in my whiskey. The mint and cinnamon combination of flavor notes was overwhelming to me. Too forward with those aromatic flavors and then a lingering nutmeg flavor. Just not good in a drink.

Clint
Clint,
Lots of spice. Delicious

Cody
Cody,
Very floral/minty on the nose. Palate is very watery. Finish for me was almost nonexistent. Not bad but not great. Wouldn't pick up a full bottle of this one.

Nathan
Nathan,
Does not taste much like other ryes. A little hay on the nose. More corn and oak and not very much spice on the palate. Kind of a clean, almost piney finish that doesn’t linger all that long. Just ok.

Daniel
Daniel,
This is a fantastic rye! Fairly smooth with a great spice that lingers in a good way! Having visited the brewery/distillery several times and working with the crew as part of their local home brew supplier, these guys are great and deserve all your support!

Ryan
Ryan,

Jamie
Jamie,
A bit of a tang of rain-soaked lumber.

Kevin
Kevin,
Wow cinnamon blast. It was a little potent for my taste. It was drinkable, but I’d never make it through a bottle of it.

Michael
Michael,
Got a chance to sample this in my first tasting box and was blown away by the minty-nutmeg flavor and cinnamon smells. It was definitely not what I expected.

Patrick
Patrick,
I’m more of a bourbon drinker, but I like this. Got it in a tasting box and wish I could find a full bottle. The spiciness and cinnamon were a nice surprise and give it a flavor I haven’t come across before.

Natasha
Natasha,
This would be perfect in something like eggnog. But a bit on the spicy harshness to drink alone. I could taste only the cinnamon/nutmeg/clove spice and the sweetness. On the nose though caramel and oak were most prominent for me. Not usually a rye fan, but not the worst rye I’ve ever had either.

Sean
Sean,
Pretty smooth rye, I do taste the cinnamon everyone talks about, however it doesn’t dominate the flavor to me. There are hints of nutmeg and vanilla throughout and a nice finish. Some spice as well, overall above average that’s for sure

Jeremy
Jeremy,
To high on the spice.

Al
Al,
Smooth rye. Nice taste. Not very complex. Needs a little time in the barrel and a little more proof.

Sadie
Sadie,
Great drink, the cinnamon and mint flavor come through first with a nice spicy finish and a good overall rye flavor.

Scot
Scot,
Not bad. Cinnamon is pretty strong. Spice is also strong. I found the tobacco, too. The caramel and some of the others on the spiral, I got cinnamon and spice. Good, but not what I would say is a strong rye.

Alex
Alex,
The cinnamon dominates the flavor profile and offers up a surprisingly spicy whisky with a smooth finish. It’s nice for chilly autumn and winter evenings. Be mindful though, you wouldn’t guess it’s 94 proof

Andrew
Andrew,
Good - not usually a Rye fan

Eric
Eric,
I thought this one was great. Better than the simple bourbon.

Ian
Ian,
I liked this one. Fun ride.

Jennifer
Jennifer,
I like the linger of spice. Mellow flavor.
