Yo ho ho! A zenish Rum this is. The force is strong with him.
In tribute to the true pirate spirit of social enlightenment Pyrat Rum has adopted a Zen patron saint and protector of fortune-tellers and bartenders named Hoti.
The understanding of human interaction is a gift and here are some Hoti’s quotes we like:
- Buy a stranger a good drink and he will be a stranger no more.
- The clock is the enemy of sociability.
- You don’t need a good reason to drink. You just need a good drink.
- A worthy bartender can fix any drink and any problem.
- One should know the word for taxi in every language.
Pyrat Rum XO Reserve is a very unique Rum. It is a semi-complex blend of select Caribbean Rums, aged up to 15 years in French Limousin and American sweet oak barrels.
Smell / Nose / Aroma
Sweet, Orange, vanilla, cola, cinnamon, brown sugar, honey. You will be able to identify this Rum from several feet away once you pop the cork.
Flavour / Taste / Palate
Very sweet aromas - almost like Triple Sec - of orange, tangerine and lemon, are the most dominant, followed by a waxy vanilla and brown sugar, and perhaps a hint of cinnamon and pepper spicing it up.
Sweet finish that leaves you smacking your lips with an orange and cola flavour that just lasts and lasts.
Quite controversial Rum among Rum lovers for its very noticable orange taste. Because the aromas and flavors are not too complex this is an excellent entry point into the world of sipping Rums.
As essential for fine mix drinks or a competent drink on it's own a fine daily driver for the rum inclined.
Was ok, Orange peel flavor was good. it was a bit overpowering at times. but would probably buy again if my other more preferred rums were out of stock at my local Liquor store. Inexpensive yet enjoyable.
Sweet. Orange peel, hard candy, cola and just a touch of ginger
This rum is amazing, i try to reserve it for drinking on the rocks or even straight. A light mix at most because on its own its smooth, sweet, spicy, and really enjoyeable to drink. Maybe on the sweeter side compared to most rums but that doesn't bother me.
Wouldn't buy again..
My absolute favorite "everyday" rum and the best for under $30. Puts the Bacardi's, Captain Morgan's and other rums to shame. An excellent, inexpensive rum. Buy it now!
Taste to much like orange for me and not sweet enough
This is one of the most excellent rums I've had in the low-to-mid price range. It's smooth and sweet, with a long, mellow finish Pretty much the only rum I like. Buy the Bacardi's for mixing. Use this one for drinking it neat.
Good with a little splash of lime. Also good for mixing when you want something better than a standard Captain Morgan.
Terrible! Smells like cleaning product and taste like fake orange
My first 10 star rating. Incredible tasting rum. Bought a bottle and finished it in two days with friends. Delicious neat, with a splash of water, on the rocks or with Coke. Looking forward to the next bottle and making some cocktails. Very sweet. Smooth. Goes down very easy. Not as complex as some people might like, but for me it is the best drink I've ever had.
An ok rum just let it breathe for about 30 minutes
Nose: Very citrussy. So much orange peel. Icing sugar, waves of fruit. Perhaps a little cough sweet note too.
Palate: Sweet, viscous, more orange. Marmalade.
Finish: Molasses, orange peels, marmalade, spice.
Overall: Like an incredible rum old-fashioned,
The quality and flavor in this rum marked with this low of a price is steal in every sense of the deal. This rum will definitely have you singing sea shanties by the end of the night. Drink responsibly you scallywags!! If flavor is what you seek, then this Pyrat will make one helluva companion.
Best rum bang for your buck! Neat, rocks or with Coke, it doesn’t disappoint.
Amen to that brother
This was one of the best drinks I ever tasted
Fantastic heavy on vanilla and caramel notes, super sweet finish.
Had it before and knew i couldn't drink it neat but great with a mixer
Tried this on a recommendation as we try to venture into the world of Rum (we have been priced out of Bourbon a bit). Okay but thin. Worth the try, but probably won't get again.
10 out of 10
This stuff is great. Smooth and slightly sweet. It goes down smooth and mixes well with coke or diet coke. I really like this stuff.
Smooth sipping rum, caramel and vanilla, great with one ice cube - don't waste it on cola!
The nose definitely has primarily vanilla. Sip this one real light first to allow the taste buds to get accustomed to the alcohol. The second taste is where the subtle complexity comes out. sugar sweet and oak come out in the after taste as you sit and contemplate.
Wonderfully smooth, easy drinking. A tad sweet, but drinking straight is the way to go! Not quite a favorite, but definitely a good one to try, savor, and enjoy...
Once you let this breathe for about 2 hours, it’s true form awakens. Pretty nice
I found it much more enjoyable sipping with some ice to dilute it down, which brought out the citrus and sweet vanilla flavors. Not smooth enough to enjoy straight, but a great value for a novice sipper not looking to spend much.
Pyrat has become my favorite Rum to sip on the rocks or straight up. Yummy flavor and easy to drink. Smooth, a little sweet and simply AWESOME.
It is an outstanding, rich cane liqueur with an old-fashioned finish.
Sweet but not overly so, great set of flavours that develop as you drink and even wonderful, if it's not sacrilege to suggest it, with a mixer! Wonderful stuff
Was presently surprised wonderful rum
Great, smooth, sweet and light
Best rum at its price.
Pretty good Especially for its price point. I was mostly able to taste orange.
One of the best light rums I have ever tasted.
My favorite and baseline to judge all others.
Orange aroma & flavour but a light bitter taste in the finish. Complex and long lasting. Nice.
Very enjoyable and different rum
Light, fresh and citric
Sweet and smooth like a fine brandy
Zu viel Orange für mich. Vielleicht um Dessert zum abschmecken besser geeignet...
Well worth a couple of sips or bottles
One of my fav rums. It's also in one of the tasting packs where you can compare it with zacapa and dos maderas which are my #1 and #2.
