It’s your excuse to wear a Highland kilt while driving a Ferrari.

The Puni Distillery was founded by the Ebensperger Family in 2010 and is picturesquely sitting at the base of the Ortler Mountains in the Italian Alps. Two years later the Scottish copper-pot stills were installed in the ultra-modern, architectural cube that they call the distillery, the first drops of Italian Whisky dripped off the stills, and the first bottles were released in 2015. They currently have three Whiskies, and Acquavite, and a Coffee Cream Liqueur.

Just when we got used to Whiskies coming out of Japan and Switzerland, they cranked up the stills in Italy to create an award-winning spirit of their own. You will note that the label says “The Italian Malt Whisky,” and that is true. But this is not a single malt in the Scottish sense. The base is actually malted Rye. And although the exact recipe is a trade secret, we suspect that there is a bit of malted Wheat and malted Barley in there as well. The spirit is then rested in French Limousin oak casks for three years — just like Cognac. But results are what matter, and the result here is a light, fragrant Whisky that kicks in a bit of spice. And it has already won a stack of awards and medals. Ciao bella!

Ratings & Reviews
My husband found this mild, mellow and very tasty. I'm not a whisky lover myself but this was definitely to my liking, very light and refreshing.
Very light in colour, light on the nose with a sweet and slightly zesty flavour. I searched high and low for this in Naples early in 2016 with no luck so I'm glad I do be it on here. Not my usual choice for a whisky but definitely worth the wait.
Hmmmm now that's a cool brew, Malted Barley with an afterburn of pepper and lime that cools the way for more of the same.
