A real Gin with real flavour from someone who may or may not be a real person, but the Gin is solid and REAL enough.
The marketing materials tell the story of a local mad scientist — one Cornelius Ampleforth — who locked himself in a room to invent a line of fine Gins. Mr. Ampleforth, lets see what you’ve got hiding under your bed, shall we?
Professor Cornelius Ampleforth's Gin is a product of a distributor based in Tunbridge Wells, England. They've cretaed a subsidiary — Maverick Drinks — to market private label brands. Professor Cornelius Ampleforth’s Gin is one such brand.
The entire range of Professor Cornelius Ampleforth's Gins is very appealing. There is the uniquely named Rumbullion, Old Tom, Bathtub, and a fine Sloe Gin.
Professor Cornelius Ampleforth's Bathtub Gin is distilled in excruciatingly small batches in a tiny copper still and the entire process is monitored by tasting. No special gadgets, no mass spectrometers, no computer-controlled transfer systems… it’s just a master distiller watching over the batch like a hawk with a glass in one hand, and a ladle in the other.
That’s why the ABV is a bit different in each batch. And the list of botanicals reads like the Ten Commandments of classic Gin-making: Juniper, Orange Peel, Coriander, Cinnamon, Cloves, and Cardamom, among a few other fiddly things. So really, it doesn’t matter whether there is or ever was a “real” Professor Cornelius Ampleforth. The Gin is real enough.
