With a legacy stretching back to 1773, Buffalo Trace Distillery is one of the world’s oldest operating distilleries. At the turn of the 21st century, the distillation team honored W.L. Weller's legacy by reserving some of the first whiskeys crafted in the new millennium. Their vision was clear: to create a truly exceptional and innovative spirit.

W.L. Weller Millennium Bourbon Whiskey is a remarkable blend of vintage straight bourbons and wheat whiskeys distilled in 2000, 2003, 2005, and 2006. It was designed to showcase the profound influence of wheat on the whiskey’s character, where its delicate softness lends a refined smoothness and subtle sweetness. This limited-edition release harmonizes its aged spirits into a cohesive masterpiece that is greater than the sum of its parts.

There are three trim levels for the Weller line of Bourbons from Buffalo Trace. There is Old Weller Antique, W. L. Weller 12 year, and W. L. Weller Special Reserve. The bottles are identical in shape with similar labeling and naming, so they are often confused.

W. L. Weller Special Reserve is billed as “The original wheated Bourbon Whiskey.” Wheat is a cost effective way to smooth out the spirit so all’s good here. It is bottled at 45% ABV, and has notes of caramel and orange blossom honey with a dash of oak.
