A high-quality Irish Whiskey that has been distilled by POWERS for nearly 230 years.

James Power was an innkeeper in Dublin. In 1791 he decided to take some of his profits and start his own distillery. Thus, John’s Lane Distillery at Thomas Street was born. The company grew and was very successful, so as soon as he was of age, his son John joined the family business, thus John Power and Son became the official name.

They innovated and expanded greatly on their way to becoming the most popular Whiskey sold in Ireland. In fact, POWERS was one of the first distilleries in the world — and the very first in Ireland — to start bottling their own Spirit in 1886. Up until then, Whiskey was sold by the cask. They placed a gold label on each bottle they produced, thus "Powers Gold Label" became the core product of their range.

Have you been to Ireland yet? Sure, they love their Guinness and Jameson… but you get to the what the boys in the local pubs are drinking and you will find Powers Gold Label is served more than any other Irish Whiskey. In keeping with tradition, Powers Gold Label is distilled three times — they say "thrice." But here’s a kicker for you… it was matured in American oak casks for five to seven years. The result is a rich, honey flavored Whiskey with bold, complex spice notes, which John' Lane Distillery became world-famous for by the turn of the 20th century. The Spirit is non-chill-filtered — a good thing indeed — and bottled at 40% ABV.

If you know your Spirits you know that this is odd. But a "special" production process — they won’t exactly say what — let’s them bottle it at this unique ABV without it turning cloudy. Don’t you just love a good mystery story? It’s worth the price of admission just to give that a sample. But even if you are not curious about their "special" process, this is just a high-quality Irish Whiskey so quit ‘yer yapping and buy a bottle already.

What does Powers Gold Label taste like?

The Flavor Spiral™ shows the most common flavors that you'll taste in Powers Gold Label and gives you a chance to have a taste of it before actually tasting it.

We invented Flavor Spiral™ here at Flaviar to get all your senses involved in tasting drinks and, frankly, because we think that classic tasting notes are boring.

Dimitri,
Complex flavor profile. Strong honey notes.

Nubia
Nubia,
Love the earthy warm notes. Has become one of my home Staples. Extremely reasonably priced for so much flavor.

Dorsey
Dorsey,
Not my cup of tea, there's an overpowering taste of something in there.

Karissa
Karissa,
Love this!!!! My new favorite.

Sergio
Sergio,
You could smell the cinnamon and the light honey. It does have a spice that lingers but not too strong. It is a every day drink. Nothing special. Better than over the counter stuff. I would buy again.

Michael
Michael,
Smoother than Jameson, definitely in my top 5 for starter Irish Whiskeys.

Michael
Michael,
Quite comparable to the Teeling Single Grain but less in spiciness. Taste is great though. Better than a Jameson (well, it depends if you like oakiness because you get a bit more of that in the Jameson). This is indeed a better all day dram than the Jameson for me.

Jim
Jim,
Powers Gold Label has now replaced Jameson as my everyday Irish whiskey.

William
William,
Nose is a little fruity with notes of caramel leaning toward honey as you taste. A spicy body that pleasantly lingers. Excellent for the price, and is going to compete with my go-to Writers Tears.

Love the spice notes. Great pairing with cigars and is still complex enough to enjoy by itself

This is a good Irish whiskey. Very smooth. The finish is a little to spicy for me.

I joined Flaviar to find an affordable 'go-to' whiskey. I think I've found it with this one. Delicious notes of honey and spice. Unbeatable for the price, in my opinion.

Amber color, with medium thick and slow tears. The nose smells of vanilla, shortbread cookies and graham crackers with a hints of orange zest and honey. The taste is earthy and spicy, with vanilla notes, honey and toasted grain.

For the price, it's definitely a great whiskey. I won't pretend it's the best ever created, but as far as fair priced Irish Whiskeys go, this one is top.

Absolutely love it! I'm not some pompous whiskey critic, just a guy who knows what he likes. This is it.
