Imagine the ultimate treat for the ultimate fan of Islay Scotch Whisky. Let’s say it was distilled in 1968 when Cortinas and Anglias were parked in front of the distillery. Maybe it was matured for 45 years in a combo of five Sherry butts that were married for the final year. Imagine an insanely complex dram with a tropical nose and a lush bittersweet palate. A rare gem that has no equal, in other words.

We just described Port Askaig 45YO. If you’re an Islay aficionado and are looking for a lavish treat - scour no more, as it doesn’t get better than this.

First-class Whiskies are taxed not only by the state but also by the angels. This refers to the 4% of Whisky that evaporates from the barrels every year, a phenomenon known as the angel’s share.
90% of all Scotch Whisky released in the market is a blend. That’s a hell of a lot.
90% of all Scotch Whiskies sold are Blends.
Can Scotch go bad? Technically, an unopened bottle of Scotch can last forever. Air is the only true evil to Whisky; once the liquid is oxidized it is no longer immortal. After opening, as long as you store your Whisky in a cool, dry place, it will last another 5 years.
Scotland is home to more than 20 million casks of maturing Whisky. That’s four for every person living there. Nuts!
Beer and malt Whisky seem to have quite a bit in common. Both drinks begin with malted barley, which deliver the enzymes and sugars needed for fermentation when steeped in hot water. The two go their separate ways at the wash stage, where they're fermented or aged to become the adult beverages you know and love.
