Member Reviews and Ratings of Plantation 5 Year Old Grand Reserve Rum
Mark,
Smooth and sweet. Great price for a really good rum.
Amanda,
Not bad. More of a mixer than a sipper. Just so-so. Not bad, just not my fave.
Ray,
Sweet and smooth with strong hints of vanilla and cinnamon. A very good sipping rum.
Alan,
Neither harsh, dominated by alcohol, nor heavy and sweet like some dark or spiced rums. A sweet aroma and finish without cloying sugary sweetness. Excellent for sipping, with light molasses notes under the smooth sugarcane finish. Just as excellent in a traditional daiquiri with just lime juice and simple syrup (but some of us like a little orange bitters and lavender-cucumber bitters as well).
Charles,
This is a good, solid rum. Different flavor than the Original Dark. This is smoother. Really good sipping rum.
Brandon,
I found this pretty underwhelming. It's not harsh, but it's not flavorful enough to enjoy on its own. I'll relegate this to mixing for a slightly more interesting daiquiri.
Chase,
Mellow enough to sip on it's own, but with enough character to stand up to spirit forward cocktails
Joe,
Nose: Calves leather and caramel. Hints of cinnamon and dried coconut, a little vanilla too. Dried banana develops...
Palate: Surprisingly sweet palate entry, with molasses and hints of leather to the fore, alongside orange rind and salted butter. Allspice.
Finish: Becomes very sweet on the finish. A bevy of fiery spices appear on the tail.
guest,
Brilliant rum for a young rum. Sweet, toasty, and lovely bits of caramel. Would definitely buy again. Going to be used for rum butter for jerk turkey drumsticks.
Ryan,
I liked it at first but after sipping on a full glass, the flavors start to fizzle out and I found myself getting less excited for each sip. I'm getting banana, vanilla, clove and brown sugar at first but the finish quickly deteriorates into a waxy, dry, alcohol aftertaste. To me it tastes like a better captain morgan but its just not as much of a step up as I wanted it to be. Decent enough, though I'll probably mix with the rest of the bottle.
Kevin,
Mellow, subtly sweet, pronounced caramel under tones. Distinctly classy, and smooth.
George,
All kind of different flavors, very smooth.
Aaron,
It was delicious
Steven,
I love this rum! Very tasty. It was a hit at my last house party!
Anders,
There are better out there
David,
Don’t be thwarted by the low price. This is one of the best rums I have ever had. Strong notes of vanilla and banana. Perfect for a warm day on the beach or a cool night by the fire.
Tristan,
Orange zest and coconut with hints of vanilla. Very palatable!
Ken,
This is excellent rum. I just opened it and had my first drink. Love it and will definitely buy it again.
guest,
Great smooth flavor. Classic Barbados rum! Huge value!
Ryan,
Smooth, inexpensive, I almost feel guilty for making dark and stormies with it... but only almost.
Behnam,
I love this rum at this price point. Very flavorful & smooth right from the bottle. I took it to another level & put it in a charred oak barrel for 3 weeks & now it's a $50+ bottle of oaked rum. Amazing stuff!
Bethany,
Very good for mixing, but still drinkable on it's own. Nice and smooth and great for the price.
Parker,
Never disappointed with Plantation; this is my go to. Can't beat the price either...
guest,
From what I've tried so far: Best value for money if you'd search a good mixing rum.
Hartmut,
Great tasting rum. Very smooth. Vanilla really stands out.
Alec,
For the price very worth it. Marked as a 7 just because of a small bite at the end and seems to be just a very satisfying rum. The flavor profiles didn't stand out quite as much I had hoped. I also get much more of a grape flavor followed by almost a doughy tail. Still very smooth overall and very worth it for the price.
PAUL,
Very smooth and good flavors just dissapointed that I fund the same exact rum at local neighborhood liquor store for $12 cheaper.
guest,
Vanilla speaks out. Dessert rum
Jesse,
Actually quite good.
Erik,
Yummy. Best rum for the price I have found yet
Cheyne,
I'm splendidly surprised by this rum. I am a whisk(e)y drinker and I don't normally drink rum, but wow, this is a wonderful sipping and mixing rum. My brother loves a rum and Coke so we tried both neat and mixed and we both enjoyed it thoroughly each way. I will definitely be expanding my palate more to this world. As far as notes go, the rum was a nectar that smelled of apples, honey, molasses, berries, and maple, with a palate of surprisingly oaky tropical fruit and cane sugar, a long finish that reminded me of sipping a good blended Speyside scotch. Love this stuff.
