Penderyn’s signature Single Malt aged in ex-Bourbon and rejuvenated oak casks for a smooth, fruit-forward dram.

Fine Single Malt Whisky had been produced in Wales for centuries, but inexplicably ceased in 1894The Welsh Whisky Company was founded in 2004 to put an end to this Welsh Whisky drought and bring the magic Spirit back to the land of King Arthur. But they decided to do things a bit differently. Dr. David Faraday — grandson of the famous physicist — designed a special pot still that would yield a more pure distillate at a higher ABV. And this single, one-of-a-kind still has a full capacity of only one cask of Spirit per day. Today, these fine blokes produce what they call "the smoothest Whisky on Earth," including their award-winning range of finished-wood Whiskies, Gin, Vodka, and a Merlyn Welsh Cream Liqueur that will tickle your wizard’s hat.

Penderyn Myth is a part of their Dragon series — as you can no doubt tell from the brilliant red dragon blazoned across the label. This Welsh Single Malt has been matured in a combination of ex-Bourbon casks and rejuvenated oak casks. The signature smoothness comes through the fruit-forward profile. And we count at least six major industry awards to back that statement up — including a Gold Medal and this year’s World Whisky Masters.

Smartass Corner:
"Rejuvenated" oak casks are technically pre-used. But they have gone through a process to expose new wood. Sometimes by carving grooves in the staves, but more often through the STR process of shaving, toasting, and re-charring.

About The Flavor Spiral

What does Penderyn Myth taste like?

The Flavor Spiral™ shows the most common flavors that you'll taste in Penderyn Myth and gives you a chance to have a taste of it before actually tasting it.

We invented Flavor Spiral™ here at Flaviar to get all your senses involved in tasting drinks and, frankly, because we think that classic tasting notes are boring.

Tasting Notes

Appearance / Color
Harvest Gold

Nose / Aroma / Smell
The aroma is a fruit wonderland with marzipan, mixed citrus, crisp apple, red pear, and a hint of mango.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
The palate is light and fresh with sweet notes of orchard fruits, toasted granola, pecan, vanilla creams, and baking spices.

The finish is nicely long with a lingering malt profile.
Ratings & Reviews
Decent dram, not very outspoken. The citrus and vanilla are distinguishable, there is little bit of spice and some fruit.
