A delicious Cherry Liqueur with no sugar — or anything else — added
Patti and Dominique Azpeitia have a 1200-acre orchard in Stockton, California, where they grow Bing cherries and walnuts. For years, they sold their produce in bulk wholesale and business was good. But they wanted to do something special… something with their name on it. So they devised a new Cherry Liqueur.
Patique Cherry Liqueur is not your average fruit liqueur. The Azpeitias crush and ferment their cherries on site. The fermented juice is sent to a local distiller where it is distilled into a clear cherry brandy — or eau-de-vie (often abbreviated EDV — very similar to cherry Schnapps. But then they cut 19% ABV with pure Bing cherry juice. Importantly, there is no sugar added. It’s just fermented cherry juice with more cherry juice added in so it’s not overly sweet. It’s delicious as an aperitif on its own. Some people even pour it over ice cream — which is delicious. But here’s a suggestion… think of it as an interesting replacement for Sweet Vermouth in a Manhattan or Negroni Cocktail. You won’t be sorry.
Smartass corner.
“Patique” is a portmanteau — two distinct words combined into one. In this case, it is a combination of the first names of the founders, Patti and Dominique.
