Top reviews for Oppidan Four Grain Small Batch Bourbon:

— Very rye forward. Since I prefer rye or wheated bourbon, this one is quite enjoyable for me. Having read other reviews, I understand how this may not be the right bottle for some people. However, if you can expand your pallet to include the unique rye and malt flavors, you may come to enjoy it as much as I do. If not, you can always use it in mixed drinks like a Sazerac, Manhattan or Old Fashioned. (Or send it to me :) )

— Questionable for complexity of flavors at first taste, but finishes unbelievably smooth. Great slightly chilled with one or two ice cubes.

— Goes down very smooth. Very nice taste

Daniel
Daniel,
When you said spicy was the dominate flavor profile, you weren't kidding. The spice hits immediately to the point the subtitles of other flavors are overpowered. After a bit of water, I was able to enjoy it more.

Stefan
Stefan,
Disappointing. Tastes like a scotch. Yikes

Geoffrey
Geoffrey,
This does not taste like bourbon. It tastes like a cheap scotch. Not too bad if you like scotch.

Meyer
Meyer,
Not smooth at all. You can taste too much alcohol. Not a bourbon to be enjoyed alone needs to be mixed in a drink.

Joshua
Joshua,
Did not like. It does have the hints of Vanilla and caramel, sweet corn, perhaps honey or similar flavor but there is another taste that really ruins it for me. I will not be finishing this bottle. Judging by other reviews on this i wonder if it was a bad batch.

Brandon
Brandon,
This is not characteristic of Bourbon in my estimation. Obviously, the four grains are part of the marketing, but the malt really screams through to me. It has a pretty flat flavor profile, and hits like a forgettable unpeated Scotch. I'm glad that small batch distillers like this exist, but craft Bourbon this is not.

Matthew
Matthew,
I liked the start - sweet with some pie spice. I didn't love the finish. Too much acetone in the finish.

Garrett
Garrett,
Didn’t really care for it. Had a strong smoky and spicy flavor. Not my kind of taste

Garrett
Garrett,
Smooth with a bit of a bite afterwards. Little too much spice for my taste

Brian
Brian,
Smooth, lots of vanilla notes in aroma and flavor. Acidic bite with dry finish.

Brent
Brent,
Questionable for complexity of flavors at first taste, but finishes unbelievably smooth. Great slightly chilled with one or two ice cubes.

Scott
Scott,
Goes down very smooth. Very nice taste

Jason
Jason,
Very smooth, subtly sweet & alluring! Caramelized vanilla with citrus notes & spice. This will be in my cabinet for the foreseeable future.

Price
Price,
This was disappointing. To me it needs to age for a few more years.

Michael
Michael,
This has to be one of my favorite Bourbons to date. It's a rich aroma with a smooth after taste. You can sense the hint of vanilla and sweetness of caramel. Darker than most bourbons it does have a bolder flavor than some of the other domestic large volume bourbons.

David
David,
Not a big scotch fan and this didn’t do anything to change my mind

Chris
Chris,
Doesn't Bourbon have to be distilled at a min 80% ABV?
Daniel
Daniel,
it must be bottled at 40% ABV or more
