The most Exquisito Rum

The famous family business Oliver and Oliver was started by Juanillo Oliver, a man who arrived in Cuba in 1856 as a member of the Spanish military. Only when the time came to go back to Spain, Oliver decided to stay on the beautiful island of Cuba and enjoy all of its precious treasures, mainly Rum. Mesmerized by the godly Spirit, he started collecting his own sugar cane and distilling his own premium Rum. Nearly a century later, his recipe was picked up by his great-great-grandson Pedro Ramon Oliver who visited Cuba and decided to continue his great-great-grandfather’s legacy. He opened a distillery in the Dominican Republic, where the Oliver family is still producing one of the most premium artisan Rums in the world.

Oliver's Exquisito 1990 Rum is a limited edition bottle from Oliver and Oliver. The oldest Solera Rum of this exquisite blend is a 1985, 1990, and 1995 distillate that was mixed with mother Rums of about 15-25 years old. This is a very smooth and richly flavored Rum that won Double Gold in the Super Premium category at the Rum Congress in Madrid in 2013. Only 1000 bottles of this series were released and all of them were individually hand-numbered. It is bottled at an ABV of 40%. This excellent Rum should be enjoyed neat or on the rocks.

Rum used to be accepted as a form of currency in Europe and Australia, a practice we should probably bring back into fashion.
If the center of our galaxy had a signature scent, it would be Rum. Yup, astronomers studying a giant cloud in the Milky Way found a substance called ethyl formate, a chemical that smells suspiciously like Rum.
You might find Rum masquerading itself under other nom de plumes, like Ron, Rom and Rhum.
Mount Gay Rum is the oldest existing Rum company in the World dating back to 1705. This is also the year Guy Fawkes tried to blow up Britain’s Parliament.

Next time you have a tipple of Rum you can say that you're tapping the Admiral. This intriguing phrase comes from the great Admiral Nelson who was killed in the battle of Trafalgar off of Spain. The story is that his body was preserved in Rum to be shipped back to England but, when the barrel arrived, some of the Rum was missing and said to have been siphoned off by some desperate or unknowing sailors. It's a great story but most likely false.
