Perhaps the best Old Fitzgerald yet Bottled-in-Bond release yet… it’s adult candy.

Heaven Hill Distillers is unique. They are one of the oldest and largest Bourbon distillers in the world, they have the second largest standing inventory of aging Bourbon, and they have grow to become the seventh largest supplier of spirits in the US. BUT … they are still family owned. In fact, they are the only family-owned production house left in Kentucky. God bless the Shapira family! The spirit brands owned and controlled by Heaven Hill includes Evan Williams, Elijah Craig, and their namesake Heaven Hill, and many dozens more.

The good folks at Heaven Hill responsible for the Old Fitzgerald brand continue to impress us. They’ve had a string of these limited “Bottled-in-Bond” releases — each one better than the one before it. First there was the nine year-old, then the eleven year-old, and now we have Old Fitzgerald Bottled-In-Bond 13 Year Old. This biannual release arrives each year in the Spring and Fall, and it’s a bit different each time. This beauty — with a green label signifying Spring 2019 — is bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV). The mash bill has no rye — it’s 75% corn, 20% wheat, and 5% malted barley — making this dram smooth as can be.

Tasting Notes

Appearance / Color
Antique Copper

Nose / Aroma / Smell
It’s not just aroma, it’s a fragrant heaven of butterscotch and toffee with oak and ginger root.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
The flavor profile it decidedly rich with dense toffee up front followed by notes of spice cake and banana bread with a hint of pepper.

The finish is medium length but interestingly transforms from spice to sweetness.
Ratings & Reviews
Smoothness is incredible and makes this on a level few others are. One of my favorites to date.
Amazing lingering taste, great balance. This is a fantastic dram one of the favorites that I have had.
Unexceptional for the price. Notes are unremarkable. Neither strong and distinct flavors nor smooth and subtle.
Damn near perfect. Lots of notes of hay, spice, and new shoe leather on the nose. It almost smells like the inside of a tannery which I love the smell of. Taste is lively on the palate and is sweet on the front with pepper notes on the back. Finish is dry moving into a peppery burn that numbs and lingers on the gums. Comes in an excellent decanter that is visually stunning. My only issue is the cork on mine broke after uncorking it only about 10 times. Overpriced on secondary, but if you can find this for retail, I"d jump all over it. Great pour.
One of the best I’ve ever had!!
The burn and flavor are perfectly balanced.
It is an outstanding, balanced, Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey that has a rich birth; while a rich & thick life that leads to a balanced death with notes of candy.
