Top reviews for Ohishi Sherry Single Cask Whisky:

— Awesome. Super smooth, semi-sweet, and really easy to drink. Prefer it ice-cold with a bit of ice.

— I first tried this in Hawaii (the Big Island), brought two bottles home. My friends loved it. Was back in Hawaii for work and wanted to buy 6 to 10 bottles ($90 Hawaii price) but only two bottles left on the Island and I bought them. Been holding on to my last bottle, until now. It is here and they ship to my state. Yeah!!!

— This whiskey is superb. I was worried about the spice but there is absolutely no heat to it. It is so damn smooth and wonderful I had to force myself not to drink the whole sample. Definitely going to order a bottle!

Andrew
Andrew,
Well balanced whiskey with unique notes that are seen only in Japanese liquors. Smooth from start to finish with mild sweet, light notes and a full mouth taste that was pleasant with each sip. Looking forward to enjoying a bottle sooner than later.

Leigh
Leigh,
Quite nice! Interesting aroma and initial flavor. Aftertaste was a little bitter or grassy for me, but there was a bit of dried fruit there to balance it. If you’re looking to buy a Japanese whisky, I’d spend the little extra for the Fukano.

Tony
Tony,
Very oaky super smooth

Hugo
Hugo,
Very subtile cherry and smoky flavors

Dance
Dance,
I wish I liked it as much as other people do. Easy to drink, yes, but so is water! Smoke too subtle for me to label it as smoky. I like smoke. Not bad, but I am surprised at how much it costs. I wouldn't go out of my way to search it out.

Maryjo
Maryjo,
Smooth with good nose.

Ray
Ray,
Lots of sherry, so much that it's hard to taste much else. Subtle smoke in the finish, the tasting notes call this "ashy" and I don't quite agree. It's in that direction, though.

Daniel

Too sweet

Andrew,
It’s like whiskey lite... I don’t mean it’s a watered down version of your preferred lager but with half the carbs lite... I mean pleasant, welcoming, juicy lite. It’s a sherry bomb for sure if you into that this is a must, if you have someone who is dipping there toes into whiskey this is a great one in my opinion.

Travis
Travis,
Really enjoyed the sherry forward experience. Just a well balanced whiskey which taste of dried fruit balanced with a floral smooth mouthfeel. Will be purchasing for my home bar

Lianda
Lianda,
We love this so much, it easily rivals much more expensive whiskeys. So smooth and a touch of sweetness, we sampled it in a tasting box and had to buy a bottle. New favorite??

Finn
Finn,
Love this.

Derrick
Derrick,
Floral nose. Overpowering sherry taste. The floral/sherry combo would be more desirable in a wine.

Holly
Holly,
Liked the sweet flavor and smoothness. Variety in flavor profile.

Molly
Molly,
Lots of Caramel

David
David,
Liquid gold color in glass with medium rims and legs. Nose is deep red wine, grape tannins and all with a touch of yeast. Palate is very chocolatey with a slight burn - dark red fruits (probably a PX or Oloroso cask). Each flavor palate balances the other, not overpowering either. Finish is medium length but all chocolate covered cherries. Mouthfeel is coating and a bit oily. Really delicious - not sure I would know it was Japanese if blind tasting but the sherry notes are fantastic.

Gene
Gene,
Pleasant taste,nice finish.

Stephen
Stephen,
Very flavorful!

Paul
Paul,
Solid on every note. Smooth and warm. I’d buy again and again.

Jason
Jason,
The nose was fine. Sweet notes to start but there was a rubber note in the middle that I just couldn't get past. 2-3 drops of water mellowed out the rubber taste a bit.

Shauna
Shauna,
taste of grape fruit and spice, with a hint of oak. good but not for me.

Odessa
Odessa,
A hard NO for me. The taste reminds me of paint thinner

Jeremy
Jeremy,
Sweet sherry up front and a nice salted oak spice to round it out. sweet/bitter citrus tinge that balances the sherry and oak very well. First rice malted scotch and it's not disappointing at all.

Jonathan
Jonathan,
I love this. The floral scents followed by a bit of a punch. Definitely worth trying.

Nicholas
Nicholas,
Nice cherry notes with a sharp, but not overpowering, bite at the end

Jack
Jack,
This one was a surprise. Interesting nose, a beautifully floral/fruity flavor, then.... BOOM! That finish just explodes at the back of your tongue, but doesn't linger and burn all the way down. They say that the brown sugar is in the nose, but it, along with caramel, was the predominant initial taste on my tongue, not the sherry or fruits. I will probably buy a bottle of it later this year.

William
William,
Instant love. Complex aroma with the sherry barrels slightly coming through. Reminds me of aged fruit leather and perhaps nuts. Was fine as a sipper, but I really liked it paired with club soda and ice.

Suzanne
Suzanne,
I liked this very much. It was my favorite out of the Flavors of Japan Tasting Box. The sharp nose is followed by a surprisingly soft feel and taste. I correctly guessed sherry cask on a blind test, but it's not overly pronounced. The finish has a slight peppery kick. I might get this one again, it's a two-part sipping experience.

Bryce
Bryce,
Tastes like cherry cough medicine. I couldn't do anything to make this taste pleasurable.

John
John,
Very dry and delightful up front, nice and sweet sherry finish.

Stephen
Stephen,
Carries a metallic taste.

Matt
Matt,
White wine and green apple nose. A tart, acidic whiskey with notes of grapes and tart apples.

Matthew
Matthew,
So yummy!

Todd
Todd,
Loved this one in my tasting box, this is my first Japanese whiskey. To our surprise it was stocked at our local store and it’s heavy in my rotation now. There is something extra round about the flavor, probably due to the rice factor. Love.

John
John,
This was my favorite of the box: good aroma, better taste and finish, more to my liking.

Liz
Liz,
This is meant to be sipped neat. One drop of water turned a cherry floral saki like delight into rubbing alcohol.

Aimee
Aimee,
Has a heavy flavor and leaves an aftertaste.

Raymond
Raymond,
One of my new favorite japanese whiskeys. Very subtle floral notes which allows the sherry to really come out. For those who are into japanese whiskey this should be on your list for an everyday dram.

Joshua
Joshua,
Smooth from start to finish. The finish has a great amount of spice balanced with strong notes of vanilla and oak.

Sunil
Sunil,
Not a sherry fan, but not horrible.

Jason
Jason,
Best thing made out of rice that I've had in recent memory. Also the brownest. Lean but round, this shows tons of sakura flavor and aroma. Assertively, deliciously fruity and flowery throughout with a touch of spice at the end. A lovely drink and a superb surprise. From the "A Tale of Three Whiskies" box, tasted in a Glencairn glass.

Tim
Tim,
Tasty. Mild nose - wet grass and glue. Thin bodied. Strong body like stamp glue (in a good way). Spice notes come strong on finish. Sherry comes around at end.

Joe
Joe,
Smooth with a nice spice and great sherry flavor. Definitely adding this to my bar.

Brian
Brian,
Very smooth

Aaron
Aaron,
Smooth. I'm not a huge Sherry fan so take my review with a grain of salt. Very sherry heavy.

james
james,
Very nice, and kind of "sweet'"

Timothy
Timothy,
Very smooth. The taste isn’t very complex but I think that’s what makes it good and unique. It’s a great Sherry for you friends that don’t drink strong whiskeys.

Surprisingly very Good! Very smooth with a nice Sherry finish. I would buy it again!

Sonali
Sonali,
Cherry + Cucumber + Nail Polish Remover = Not my particular brand of whisky Perhaps this tastes better in a cocktail? Overall, quite a bland flavor profile with a terrible association to ethanol.

This is my first sherried whisky, and I really like it! This one is definitely quite a departure from the other Japanese whiskies, but in this case, different is good! Very interesting nose and tastes. Not very complex, but very good. I'll be picking up a bottle to spend more time with it.
