Member Reviews and Ratings of Ohishi 8 Year Old Sherry Cask
I rate this right in the middle for my liking. I chose it as part of tasting box. Good finish, not overstaying it’s welcome
*My Ratings are Truth to me, a 10 better make me order the bottle no matter the cost! T
hese are my own personal opinions. I am no expert. I thought this little neat whisky was tasty for my first ever whiskey club taster test. Agreed... Very clean and neat. I liked it, it has a friendly taste. It does have a sweet taste to it and is very smooth to drink neat. I did personally prefer it on the rocks and enjoyed sipping. I taste oak. Not a bad after taste, how ever, not my favorite. Vanilla aroma.
Very clean. Tasty.
My new favorite, robust.
Sweet, very smooth to drink neat.
Amazing sherry flavor, very smooth
Smooth and complex, but the flavors pull me in different directions and eventually leave me unsatisfied with any of them
Definitely taste the rice.
Pleasant with an ice cube. A bit of Carmel, spicy note. Not hugely complex.
73 nice smell good neat and Orr
smooth but with a nice and spicy bite. also a subtle scent that doesn’t pummel your nose.
Very tasty and smooth.
Smooth and sweet, with a spicy finish.
Too smoky and spicy for my liking
Strong spice and sherry flavors but smooth and easy.
"Nose: Vanilla, some cherry notes are accented well with the sherry and a bit of the typical Japanese floral notes mixed with a bit of cooked grains
Palate: Lots of Oloroso sherry notes and ripe cherries dominate the initial tasting. Very smooth with a bit of oakiness complemented by the floral notes again. It has a younger taste to it though.
Finish: Citrus zest and more vanilla on the back end. Stewed stone fruits as well. A very good expression!"
Sherry note is noticeable and welcomed. Great taste.
Smooth, easy drinking. A little on the sweet side up front, slightly spicy on the finish.
Much smoother than any other 8 year whiskey. Very tasty.
Ok not great
Sherry cask was better than expected.
I appreciated this dram in the tasting box a lot. Very smooth, def sherry, and just enough spice to thoroughly enjoy it. Def recommend!
Strong smoke outweighs the sherry. Tight drink with a quick finish
Smooth, sweet, and exciting
sharp nose, little Oak, lots of smoke and Ash. Very little citrus. Decent mouthfeel, good amount of Sherry a little fruit and Cocoa. For some reason reminds me of the ocean. Maybe salty. Not the most complex but very unique and fun to try.
smooth caramel vanilla easy to drink
I can certainly taste the sherry. Very smooth!
Floral notes on the nose. Thick and coating with lots of subtle flavors of sherry, oak, fruits and nuts. Light smoke and not much heavy alcohol taste. Very good.
Not a fan of the harsh, bitter aftertaste
Everything described in the tasting notes can be picked out. Very smooth all the way through the drinking experience. Nice a warming as it moves down. Coats the mouth nicely. Very floral-sweet nose and fitting taste and finish. A nice smooth easy Whisky to have neat. When compared to the Fukano that I just sampled I would go with the Fukano as it was just slightly smoother on my palate.
Harsh. Didn’t care for the sherry taste that overwhelmed this one. Better with a cube or two of ice
Smokey and spicy. Lingering bite.
Drinkable, strong vapor but, the taste it’s a light sherry caramel mouth feel. Not too sweet with a nice spice finish. My first taste of this box . I’m pleased
Smooth with a nice sherry finish
Sherry forward nose with hints of citrus. Smokey forefront followed by sherry and fruit on the tongue. Warm spice throughout. On ice smoke is subdued, more hints of the fruit, oak and nuttiness.
Runs a tad too warm for an everyday drink, but it is decent!
I love it! It smells good and tastes wonderful
Definitely reminds me of a sake. Very light and smooth. Definitely strong vanilla.
Not my favorite. Acidic tasting
I’m not a huge sherry cask fan, but this isn’t too sherry-y. It definitely has the sweeter rice taste, but it’s pretty complex.
Sherry forward, mild oak, and a bit of spice.
Spicy! I originally thought it was the alcohol burn but quickly came to realize that the dram has some spice behind it!
