guest,
Extremely well balanced. I have no idea why smoke is the predominant note on the flavor spiral, because there’s little to no smoke to this. Nor is it a sherry bomb by any stretch. Other scotches try to be Alex Rodriguez. This scotch is Derek Jeter. Classy. Understated. Smooth. A winner. This is what you buy when you’re ready to graduate from Macallan 12.
Daniel,
Fantastic single malt. Nice understated peat flavor, smoke and citrus fruit. Delicious.
Christopher,
One of the essential Scotches. A nice middle ground between peaty and malty expressions.
roger,
Best ever
Seth,
Nice - very sweet.
David,
Nice smooth but complex sweet body.
Corey,
I recieved a bottle for my birthday, and was surprised at the cost. I was newer to drinking scotch at the time. The first flavors were fruity and amazing, but the entire back end of the flavor profile was just not satisfying. This is only scotch that I wanted to clense my palate after sipping
Louise,
Good before dinner drink. Smoky but smooth. Would drink with friends.
guest,
Spicy smoky and salty on mouth. Mix of sweet and sour on the nose. In general a very pleasant taste that leaves a feel of just enough spiciness on the mouth
Joe,
Very good
Matt,
Not quite peaty enough, but smooth.
Gordon,
Love this stuff
guest,
Better than JW Blue in value. Almost taste the same but better and cheaper.
Kelly,
A solid go to scotch. Great flavor profile. Hints of citrus which bring out some sweetness but not an overpowering amount. Definitely has some great smokiness and a salty brine-like taste. Mild creamy/caramel notes. Perfect neat or over ice.
guest,
Just a pleasure to drink. Every sip has something different and unique.
Stephen,
I’m normally not a fan of single malts, but this is such high quality I can’t deny how good it is. Smooth, easy to drink. Wonderful with one cube of ice.
guest,
Very drinkable and great for any occasion
Batch,
Nice, smooth, citrus with a very subtle hint of smoke. A tiny bit of ice/water releases the flavours.
Richard,
Smooth with a little smoke.
Ira,
I've had this bottle for a good 4-6 years, about 1/4 left. It's still got it. The smoke jumps from the glass, you can even taste it by inhaling a little bit. A very salty and fruity dram, with bits of apricot, burnt grass, and prunes. Super enjoyable
Michael,
Very smooth. great sipping whiskey.
David,
Firm taste, beautiful balance, bit of peat without being overly heavy. One of my favorites.
guest,
Nose: Sea salt, mixed fruits, malt, hint of smoke, hint of oak
Palate: Sea salt, malt, citrus, hint of oak
Finish: Very long and almost same as palate
Very complex and pleasant aromas however very subtle. Oakiness needs to develop more and it needs to be more dense. Probably a 21 years old version would make a very satisfying experience
timothy,
It as good, but not my favorite.
guest,
One of my favorites and one of the best whiskeys within this price range. At least that’s what I think.
David,
Outstanding dram, all I can is , it’s gone ! Look forward to the next bottle!
Jakub,
Love this one - smooth yet sharp, strong yet not too much, smoky yet still clean, light peat, wooden tones...yeah, well rounded whisky
Praveen,
Nice single malt highlands medium oak whisky with creamy smooth mouthfeel with earthy peaty taste with hints of orange and a slight smoke finish.
David,
Smooth, easy sipping.
Turka,
Nose: green apples, distinct
Palate: a hint of cinnamon and brown sugar to round out the apple pie
Finish: crisp, doesn’t linger for too long
Matthew,
Very light and smooth for a peated scotch. Some salty and sweet with dried fruits and citrus, lightly smoky on the finish. A delicious malt! The peat was very subtle and light, this scotch is a hidden gem in the world of Highland Single Malts.
Matthew,
After getting a bottle for Christmas, I have to up my rating by a star. It gets better with each pour.
Nate,
Spectacular.
Ira,
Great golden color, very pretty. Nose of orange peel. Butterscotch on the front of my tongue, a bit of citrusy acidity in the middle, and caramel towards the back. Nice long, bright, fruity finish.
guest,
Easy drinking scotch with an ever favorite slight peaty flavor that is my favorite
Alex,
Solid choice in the bar. Hints of the sea, goes down easy with a nice little bite on the finish
Elliot,
Very smooth to drink with a strong peat flavour.
Keith,
Love it on the rock, Silky and Delicious.
Blake,
More of a summer sipper, it is lighter than its counterparts.
guest,
Oban 14 is the scotch that got me hooked. Although I’ve migrated closer to the Islay scotches, this is still one of my favorites. Get some slight smoke on the nose, but more brine and fruit. Lot a sweet vanilla and honey notes on the palate. Finish lingers with dry, oak flavors. Adding a little water brings out more of the oak.
Andrew,
This has quickly become on of my favorite scotches. I prefer it neat, but a drop or two of water is delicious too. Love Islay scotches and other island offerings. This one is just different enough to make it stand out. Great dram for sure.
Briana,
Good solid drink but needed to be over the rocks.
Nick,
Great scotch.
Aaron,
Similar beautiful flavor profile to me as Lagavulin but a touch less on the body. Very solid
Gary,
Solid choice for the price.
Dale,
Smooooth as silk. Easy going down. Best Scotch for the money, hands down!
Tara,
very clean nose slight soft fruit, caramel and vanilla, finish is a slow lingering spicy burn. Phenomenal! 9.0+
Connor,
A little peat but a lot of flavor. 🔥
Patrick,
My personal favorite. Smooth, slightly sweet, not much peat.
John,
An easy go - to with a great price!
Jacqueline,
Smooth...not to peaty...paints a great picture of the sea air.
Dale,
Top shelf. Smooth as silk. My go-to.
Richard,
One of my favorite scotches of all time.
William,
First class. Complex flavors, not too peaty. I love it.
Joyce,
Very smooth, have recommended to friends
Troy,
This was my first Scotch and remains a staple on my shelf. Just a hint of the sea with a good slow burn and clean finish. I've found some variation over the years, but that makes it more interesting to track year over year. I rate all other scotches below, equal to, or better than this one as this is my benchmark dram.
David,
Give me a West Highland scotch any day. While peaty Islays are great, and Speyside variants are everywhere, I have to be in the right mood or weather. First time I had Oban 14 I just sat back and let it sit in my mouth. Not sure if spend $70 on it though, considering my local Costco has it for $53. Price only thing holding this back.
James,
Beautiful- one of my favorites for under $100
Robert,
Beautiful amber color,
Smoky vanilla aroma.
Definitely smoky taste with vanilla, salt, brine. Definitely can taste the sea.
Smooth and sweet with a little water.
Shauna,
kind of bland, slightly floral, and very spicy.
Marie,
Best everyday Single Malt Scotch for the money. Can't go wrong!
Simon,
Smooth
James,
Clean and Crisp, no smoke, would recommend
Michael,
a great mix of smoke and flavor. Start sweet and ends with a wallop
Rasmus,
It's a good base scotch. Not my favorite but a good bottle to have at home or to find in a bar
Neil,
My go-to scotch. Always have a bottle in the liquor cabinet. Not enough o's in smooth to describe it.
TERRENCE,
Hands down my favorite Scotch to date. Supremely well balanced and smooth.

Smooth with hints of honey and vanilla. It’s holds a permanent spot in my home bar.
Very well rounded, hints of smoke, brine, not too harsh

David,
Straight from the distillery, very Smokey and smooth
Steve,
This is a very nice single malt to have on hand.
guest,
Delicious
Vivek,
Great, smooth drink
Gašper,
Exquisite
Christian,
The quintessential Highland Single Malt. As well rounded and balanced as any scotch you will find. Rich, layered, slightly briny, just a touch of smoke and a velvety texture. Few drams hold up at this price point.
Ross,
Personal favorite.
guest,
Favorite so far 2019
Seth,
My current favorite bottle of scotch. Not too peated or Smokey. Front end mild sweetness. So smooth.
Andrew,
Enjoyed the light citrus and floral notes
Kurt,
Killer. Sea salt and caramel on the tongue and a gentle smoky peat finish.
Seth,
Loved it. Wife got me this last birthday and has become a favorite. Smooth and not too smoky
Stefan,
too smoky
guest,
Hints of smoke and sea salt on the nose. Honey and heather on the palate
John,
Pretty sweet on the front end, giving way to peat on the back end but smooth throughout.
John,
Delicious blend of peat and smoke yet not overwhelming
Thomas,
Delicious
Daniel,
My favorite of the standard middle-shelf Scotches that every bar in the US has.
Benjamin,
Very smooth, very sippable scotch
Imran,
easy smoke to start with
Jonathan,
The best whiskey ever.
Tim,
For now my favorite!! I Haven't tried a lot of whiskys but this one already blew my mind
Scott,
Smokey Petey... Delicious!!!
Etienne,
Great Scotch that goes down smooth and warms you up!
David,
One of my absolute favorites. On the darker side of the scotch spectrum (#scotchspectrum), which is probably why I like it so much.
NOAH,
The only Whiskey bottle my friend and I could finish in a few hours. This is so delicious!!!
Marques,
Absolutely wonderful. My new favorite by far. Very friendly (As opposed to something like an Ardbeg or a Laphroaig), but still complex on both the nose and the tongue. A little pricey if your not familiar with scotch prices but well worth the money.
Günter,
Very remarkable finish to finish a perfect Scotch Single Malt dram
guest,
Superb peaty yet subtle scotch.
Lawrence,
Smoke and vanilla nose. Smoke and seaweed. Thick. Full. Honey. Sweet. Good length.
Brandon,
Wonder sipping scotch, no ice, no water. I think it’s probably the smoothest scotch for under $100.
guest,
Spicy
Joshua,
One of my favorites.
Razvan,
Balanced
Michael,
I like it a lot with some water...brings out the oils
guest,
Great
Bradley,
If you enjoy a strong peat flavor, then this is your scotch. I can't stand it. This has a strong leather aftertaste. I understand that may be appealing to some, and if you really enjoy this scotch my review will seem off base.
This was not for me, it was worth trying to expand and understand what I do and do not like. Again if you like Joven Tequila or an intense smokey flavor and a rich leather after taste this is for you and ignore my rating.
arne,
very “wooden” taste
Michihiro,
Smoke and vanilla with light honey - the one scotch I can drink in any mood
Angela,
A little sweet with a good amount of burn
Jeramy,
Peachy, light, smooth fruit forward
Marc,
This is a nice every day type of scotch with some smoke and some peat
guest,
Angenehme Nase, fruchtig süßer Geschmack mit Honignoten im Abgang, sehr fein zu trinken! Gerne mehr!
Highlander Pub/Wien - 05/19
shannon,
Caramel and spicy
Giulio,
Lighter peat makes it easier to drink, but has a slightly harsh finish. Flavor is good overall with a nice caramel tone.
Jonathan,
Lightly peated (2-3 ppm) the nose is bright with a caramelized sweet but slightly aggressive fruit. The palate is lacking, some earthy tones, darker flavors that for me where hard to distinguish. No peat till the backend and on swallowing the peat shows it’s face again coming up through The nostrils. The finish is slightly smoky but seemed to lack in other flavor notes. Decent, and a good little initiation into peat, but way overpriced for me to return to. $20/pour, $90/bottle.
Owen,
Probably one of my favorites so far
WESLEY,
Great Scotch! A little smoky but I enjoy it more every time I drink it!
Jason,
Really enjoy this one. A nice smooth finish with good flavor but not overbearing
Brett,
Probably my favorite everyday whiskey right now
Michael,
An excellent go-to Scotch, well balanced between peat and sweet.
Sasikiran,
Elegant
Andrew,
Perfect balance of peat and caramel. Highland Scotch at its finest.
Andrej,
Well. Quite average. Good but nothing to remember.
Matthew,
Perfect balance of salty, smoky, & sweet. Great entry level for those not familiar with smoke and peat. Not the most complex single malt out there, but it is delicious and drinkable. A staple in my bar.
Chris,
Got the sweetness a bourbon lover will enjoy, with a little peat in the middle of all the fun flavors. Super enjoyable to drink.
Mandy,
Not as good as Cragganmore, but still real good
Luis,
I’m not a Scotch guy - I’m a solid bourbon man... but the Oban (18) is AMAZING. Balanced, yet sophisticated, it is a pleasure to sip...
Ben,
Was on the peatier end of my tastes until I really tried peaty
Jerry,
Sweet with strong floral and honey notes. Might be a new favorite!
guest,
Very drinkable, based on the flavor spiral and reviews I expected much more smokiness... I got more pepper
Cole,
Just like it, nothing special to me.
Patrick,
A little sweet with a good amount of burn
David,
Well balanced smokiness, salt and vanilla hits the nose,
Big tastes of both vanilla and citrus makes up the body,
A sweet finish that rounds of with the same smokiness as it began,
Simone,
A classic in most pubs. Always a good choice.
Gregory,
This coastal single malt has been my favorite go to scotch for the last two decades after discovering it while visiting Oban. It was much rarer back then.
Michael,
Super smooth, my favorite scotch
guest,
My current go to
Kenyada,
So smooth this is one of my favorites
Edwin,
100% my goto
Richard,
Oban my first sip and all I could think was OH My!
Wesley,
Love it! Fell in love with it the first time I had it. A small amount of peat/smokeness, but not overpowering because there's tons of other flavors too.
Christina,
I own the 18 year but it's not an option to select. A fine scotch, well balanced between spice, smoke and sweetness. For a nice sip by the fireplace.
Houston,
So good!!! Highly recommend
Charles,
So smooth and enjoyable.
Daniel,
I'm not a big scotch drinker (although I am trying to learn), but I do think that this Oban 14 is very nice. It was suggested to me by a friend as a good entry level scotch as it is not quite so peaty as some of the other scotches. When I am looking for a scotch to stock the cabinet I grab this bottle because I know I will enjoy it.
Alfonso,
Not the kind of Islay i'm into. A bit floral and rough on the finish. That said, it's good on it's own merit.
Scott,
Delightful
Daniel,
Just out right delicious!
Daniel,
Just out right delicious!
Lots,
A hint of caramel and apple.
Stafone,
This is one of the best whiskey I’ve had to date
Andilee,
A little bit of smoke, but not much. Also a floral taste to me, and a little bite at the end. A good scotch but very different from my Islays.
Gary,
Obama is a very drinkable whisky. It has a touch of smokey peat but, not overpowering. It has a strong fresh taste that even first time Scotch drinker will like.
Thomas,
Im not well versed in the complexities of scotches. The few i have tried have all been too nutty for me. Oban is an exception. Oban 14 is smokey and dry, helping dilute the whiskey's natural sweetness.
Definitely recommend
Christopher,
Absolutely love this bottle, got me interested in the world of scotch. It's smooth and just the right amount of smoke for me, a great bottle to enjoy with friends
Ben,
Oban is one of my favorite whiskys. It’s smooth finish is great. Lots of flavors up front with a perfect ending. Love it.
Scott,
Fantastic all around Scotch and and a good start to the world of Scotch.
Joseph,
Perfect balance of sweet and smoky taste. Strong and elegant. Must have for the single malt admirers. It is do good. Rich nose and taste. Nice finish. It is not very smokey. Very good
guest,
Light Smokiness with salty finish. Expected more smoke up front.
Christos,
Perfect balance of sweet and smoky taste. Strong and elegant. Must have for the single malt admirers.
William,
Good all around dram. Very smooth. Nice blend of peat, fruit, and oak flavors. Pleasant to drink but not exceptional
Taryn,
Very strong and sour in the beginning. Best on the rock
Chris,
citrus, salt, light peat. Great stuff from a great place, and the 18 is even better.
Lisa,
I'm not sure if I should go 7 or 8 on this. I like it a lot, but I know there are many whisk(e)ys left to try. It's friendly. On the nose, I get orange & lemon and peel, pear. There is a peatiness (medicinal) quality, but it's more fruit forward. On the tongue I can still taste citrus and fruit, but this where I'm getting a touch of the sea. There is a saltiness, and seaweed taste present. I also taste something that reminds me of Honey Nut Cheerios, a sweet cereal, but not overpowering sweetness on the cereal.
Colin,
Average
Anthony,
The first scotch that really caught my attention and convinced me to educate myself about single malts. I’m still learning, but this is my landmark setting my standard. The lingering flavor changes through at least three enjoyable steps until you go back for the next sip - dark fruit and salt middle being my favorite. Salty caramel end finish.
Aaron,
Very smooth. Not much peat which I prefer but still enjoyed this one. Nothing overwhelmingly flavorful though
Erik,
I was looking forward to opening this bottle and it most certainly did not disappoint. Delicious.
Jeremy,
Not a fan of a lot of smoky peat to my scotch but this is the first one that has the perfect amount of smokiness couples with a nice bouquet of flavors.
Alon,
Smooth but not particularly interesting. Fairly limited finish. No complexity at all. If you’re a bourbon lover, you’d probably like this scotch. But drinking it, you won’t really know you’re drinking scotch.
Gerard,
One of my favorites, and one of my first bottles down!
Russ,
Our first Scotch Whisky. Wife bought it at Costco because she liked the history story on the label. It was a great choice for our first Scotch. We even went to the Oban Distillery when we went to Scotland. Great tour! Brought home 2 bottles of the Distillers Edition.
Roger,
Great tasting sipping whiskey, One of my favorites when the price is right.
Jesse,
A touch too Smokey for me, but a respectable finish. Not a Palate crusher.
guest,
This is what got me started on whisky some 30 years ago. Easy to drink at any occasion... Still a favorite...
Aaron,
Mmmm, this is so delicate and tasty. It totally fulfills the promise! My palate is so fulfilled by the tantalizing swirl of smoky flavor. It definitely made it out of the crowd.
Jacob,
One of my favorite drams, excellent flavor, great color truly one everyone should have in their collection
Piotr,
It is do good. Rich nose and taste. Nice finish. It is not very smokey. Verry goood :)
Alex,
Not a peat guy, but this convinced me to venture down that tasting avenue. It's not overpowering like Laphraoig, more of a mild peat taste to it. Also smooth, quite like Glenlivet but without the sweetness. Definitely a good boy, not yet perfect.
Guillermo,
From the start I tasted the citrus, sweet caramel, vanilla, the malt, and oak. Very fruity and super smooth. Liked it so much that I got a few bottles.
guest,
Lekker fruitig en fris
Mario,
My favorite single malt scotch to date.
Christine,
Delicate toasted barley/caramel aroma; rich, sweet, smokey flavor - very smooth, long finish. Doesn't quite compare to my favorite Lagavulin 16, but very enjoyable.
Uriel,
Briefly sweet and a long smoky finish.
Daniel,
Very easy to drink. Not a lot of bang for buck though.
Quinton,
Very smooth, sweet vanilla flavor
Eric,
Smooth and easy to drink.
Leon,
Enjoyed a lot, one of my daily drinks.
guest,
Nice smooth flavor ! A little bit to much citrus !
Dallas,
Like an old lover, the memories are sweeter.
Michael,
Favorite every day Scotch
CJ,
Nice non peaty scotch that is smooth and easy to drink. Good to share with new scotch drinkers.
Amit,
Accidental rating
Tristan,
Immediately getting red apple peels on the nose, with some clover and daisy. Getting honey and dark fruits on the palate with not too much smoke and a dash of sea salt. I find this enjoyable neat and can see this as and any-kind-of-occasion Scotch.
Leo,
Very fruity and sweet, but not syrupy. This would be a good dessert scotch.
Nick,
Great smokey flavor with an easy finish. A true classic to have and to enjoy with friends and family
guest,
Very nice. Beautiful colour quite smooth. Easy to drink. Honeyish
Nicholas,
My go to Scotch.
Eduardo,
Not quiet the smokiness of Johnny Walker, but close. I prefer this one over Johnny.
Nathan,
Easy to drink.
Ryan,
Oaky, spicy nose with a lingering sweet velvety finish.
guest,
Easy drinker
Steve,
Smooth, Carmel, great for sipping and telling stories at camp.
Vicky,
Did not like he this one at all. Seemed to have some "off" flavors reminiscent of food gone bad.
Steven,
Very very good

Fabulous, I tasted it at the Blair Atholl Distillery - wish I had time to stop in Oban to try it in it's home distillery!

One of the best I think I have ever had, got a bottle from a friend will be buying a new one soon as I finished this one off quickly.

It feels like a lighter Laphroaig 10. Not too smoky, sweet and vanilla. Not my taste

Great finish. Perfect peat.
Dumitru,
That's a strong one
Benjamin,
My first of the finer scotches. This is the standard to which I compare all others.

Worth picking up a bottle. Good amount of sweet, hint of smoke and oak. Nice finish.
