The Nonino family have been instrumenta … no, they have been indispensable to the growth, development, and prosperity of Grappa. The Nonino Distillery was established in 1897 by patriarch Orazio Nonino in the Friuli region of Italy. They’re responsible for some of the most important innovations in the Grappa industry, almost single-handedly revolutionizing a once poor-man's leftovers into a delicacy of the highest order. And—even rarer today—this producer is still family owned and operated.
Amaro Nonino Quintessentia Liqueur is based on a old recipe that’s a closely guarded secret of the Nonino family. But we do know this: their Nonino Grape Distillate is infused with herbs and aged for more than 12 months in barriques. Bottled at 70 proof, it captures the essence (hence, Quintessentia) of the rich experience and knowledge of the family. Italians usually savor it neat at room temperature after dinner as a digestive, but it’s actually a very versatile drink that can serve you in fabulous cocktails or chilled over ice.
