Two great American traditions meet in a tasty Spirit.

The Vermont Spirits distillery has been standing on the banks of the Ottaquechee River up in eastern Vermont since 1999. There, Master Distiller Harry Gorman makes his hand-crafted range of small-batch Spirits, including Vodka, Gin, and Bourbon. His secret? The love of Vermont and its maple syrup. In the early spring, Gorman collects the sap from the famous Vermont maple trees, which is lighter with more delicate and subtle flavors than the traditional sap. Also making a proprietary strain of yeast for fermentation, Gorman makes sure all Vermont Spirits honor the land they come from.

No. 14 Bourbon was named as a nod to Vermont – the 14th State. It blends together two beloved American traditions: Bourbon and maple syrup. The Bourbon starts by resting in the barrels for 5 years before it’s blended with maple syrup that’s crafted personally by Master Distiller Gorman. The robust flavors of honeyed oak, woody spices, vanilla, and caramel shine meet the sweeter and chewier flavor profile of the maple syrup right in the golden middle. Well-balanced and smooth, this is a fantastic expression of American flavors that’s ideal for sipping it neat or mixing it up in a cocktail.

Bourbon only needs to be placed in a new oak container for a few seconds to be called Bourbon. Fresh from the still and unaged Bourbon is called a White Dog. Recently, many of the larger distillers have started packaging this harsh, clear grain spirit for sale.
At any given time, there are more barrels of Bourbon in Kentucky than there are people. The population of the Bluegrass State is about 4.4 million. Today there are more than 5 million barrels of Bourbon sitting in the rick-houses of that Old Kentucky Home. That’s nearly 300 bottles of Bourbon per person, or about 60 gallons each.

Yellowstone Bourbon has had several owners throughout its history, including J.B. Dant, D.H. Taylor, The Glenmore Distillery, United Distillers & Vintners, the David Sherman Company, Heaven Hill, and David Sherman (now known as Luxco).

"Remember that iconic poster from World War II showing Rosie the Riveter as a patriotic American woman doing her part for the war effort? Well, hundreds of businesses did their part too, and the Bourbon distillers stepped right up with ‘em.

Distilleries all over Kentucky and Tennessee were re-tooled to distill fuel alcohol and ferment penicillin cultures to treat wounded soldiers."

J.B.'s father, Joseph W. Dant, invented a still made from a poplar log at 16, as he couldn't afford a copper still. Although crude, it worked exceptionally well!

Pinhooking means purchasing and rearing a foal based on its pedigree and either selling it or turning it into a champ racing horse. The same idea is behind Pinhook Bourbon: they source young Whiskey to mature and blend it into a blue-ribbon sipping Bourbon.
