Member Reviews and Ratings of Nikka Yoichi Single Malt
Bought for my son, found it to be a little too peaty for his taste but was happy to try. Again, this was a gift from me to him but it did inspire him to join upon my referral :)
Rigid structure, ample peat, broader mouthfeel. Complex and layered flavors expands on the palate.
This is for everyone who’s on the fence whether to take the leap of faith or not in buying this. I use to enjoy smoky drinks but a bad mezcal traumatized me and ever since I haven’t really gravitated to peaty or smoky drinks. I was fairly skeptical with this one but since I love Nikka Whiskey I gave it a try. Initial smell and sip confirmed my dislike. But, as the flavors opened up, it grew on me and I’m happy to say this is a winner. Not the typical oaky Japanese whiskey or sherry cask layered sweetness but it’s a nice bottle to change up the pace for me personally. Highly recommended.
This is a wonderful whisky. If I could find it more easily I would recommend this to everyone. It's astonishingly full-bodied and smooth, yet delicately smoky and savory. Good stuff, bar none.
Fruity, very light color and taste, sweet.
Smooth as heck! Perfect amount of smoke for me. Great Japanese Whiskey for sure
It's ok. The single Malt 12 year that you cannot find anymore was much better,
Would give it a 10, but this isn't the same as the 10 year age statement version. Still, I LOVE this whisky and it's a great replacement while we can't obtain the age statement version. Citrus and smokey (light when first opening the bottle, but more pronounced after the bottle sits for a couple months), with some vanilla/cream as well. This is absolutely my favorite distillery and one of my favorite whiskies. For the price, this is incredible. Also, not sure why other reviewers say it's "not as smooth" as other whiskies. If this isn't smooth, then idk why you are drinking whisky to begin with. It has a very slight "bite" but it's warming and perfect for the style.
Zesty smoke flavor is very forward here. Maybe because I tried it after some age statement Japanese whiskys, but the young age really showed. Not as much depth or linger. Made me miss the yoichi 12.
Easily one of my favorites. Very lightly peated, so don't expect anything like a laphroaig or an ardbeg. Malt, cereal, a light sweetness, the smallest hint of salt and peat.
A bit light and lacking complexity but easy to drink; a nice balance of citrus and smoky notes.
Not as smooth as the yama or hibiki
Smokey, vanilla, creamy. Hints of campbeltown with peat and smoke.
Smells like royal family
Loved the smoky, wood barrel flavor that dances around the fruity and floral notes of this excellently crafted whiskey
I would give this bottle a generous rating of an 8.0 I could definitely smell the peat, and there is very strong smoke presence, but there is something lacking. Sure, there is a tiny hint of candied honey and there is a slight salty flavor in the after taste, especially around the lips, but the fruitiness escapes me. If you like peat, this one may be up your alley. The finish is medium and not very complex.
Loved it. Easy to drink
My favorite of the Japanese whiskeys. I would have guessed this was an Islay scotch. Rich flavor of smoke, seaweed and oak. New go-to Japanese whiskey.
Smokey earthy goodness with a dash of sweetness that is smooth and wonderful.
Simply delicious... if you describe it, you do it a disservice.
