Masataka Taketsuru knew a good thing when he saw it. That’s why the Japanese Whisky visionary imported a copper still (a.k.a. patent still) from Scotland to Japan back in 1963. Homeboy knew it would produce a grain spirit that was high in alcohol content, but would still retain the character, flavor and aromas of the grain.

That’s the kind of forward thinking we like in our Whisky leaders.

Nikka Coffey Grain is made from a mash bill that contains mostly corn and a dash of malted barley before being distilled in the aforementioned Coffey still. Distilled back in 2003 and bottled 11 years later, this hogshead-aged drop clocks in at a respectable 58% ABV.

Rodney
Rodney,
Easy to drink. Nose: lemon, vanilla bean whipped cream. Palate: lemon, terpenes, almonds. Sweet and a hint of something like the coconut filling of an almond joy.
