A cult-like Gin.

Monkey 47 is distilled by Christoph Keller for Alexander Stein of Black Forest Distillers. Monkey 47 is very much a novelty within the Gin Universe, unique because of its low production and a real difference in style and taste

Monkey 47 Schwarzwald Gin is obtained by double distillation of sugar beet molasses and a third distillation with botanicals, aged in clay pots. Made with 47 botanicals and bottled at 47%, they also use a secret weapon typical to the Black Forest in the mix - lingonberries. It's become almost a cult like Gin over the recent years and in case you haven't had a taste of this flavor bomb, we can give you nothing else but a recommendation of the highest order!

An extraordinary Gin. Period.

What does Monkey 47 Schwarzwald Dry Gin (1L Bottle) taste like?

The Flavor Spiral™ shows the most common flavors that you'll taste in Monkey 47 Schwarzwald Dry Gin (1L Bottle) and gives you a chance to have a taste of it before actually tasting it.

We invented Flavor Spiral™ here at Flaviar to get all your senses involved in tasting drinks and, frankly, because we think that classic tasting notes are boring.

Tasting Notes

Appearance / Color
Clear with a silvery, glycerous appearance.

Aroma / Smell / Nose
Crisp and fresh on the nose. The initial perfumed burst is of sweet berry / juniper and assorted fresh citrus peel; further aeration releases pine needle, lavender and clove-like scents. Distinctive and somewhat unconventional, some tasters found the aromatics a little cologne like.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
On the palate, this begins soft and glycerous, gradually building intensity, climaxing in an explosion of peppers; Mid palate is off dry and oily with juniper, lavender, pine needle and spice. Some tangy notes in the mouth add extra freshness to the traditional characters. Fairly complex.

Finish
Good balance of all components and racy, fresh finish, flavors persisting into the long, dry after taste.

Steven
Steven,
There is no other gin quite like this. You'll either love or hate it. I love it!

Rob
Rob,
For gin enthusiasts, this has more of what everyone typically likes about gin. The flavors are more intense creating exceptional gin and tonics, gin martini's or just sipping on the rocks. Fantastic gin. Expensive? Yep. But if you're not cost sensitive, it's worth it.

Michael,
Most unique of any gin I've tasted, drink straight or don't waste the money.

Teagan,
This is far and above the most intricate and delightful gin I've tasted. There is so much going on that I have no desire to mask it in a cocktail, yet already-yummy mixed drinks are elevated to a whole new level of joy and complexity with its inclusion. I frequently open the bottle and pass the cork around at dinner parties because the nose alone feels like all the best moments of an afternoon spent walking in a large, lush meadow. Minus the allergies. I have yet to take a sip (or pour some for a friend) and not feel (or witness) immediate joy. This gin is a must.
