Mikkeller is a microbrewery from Denmark that specialises in beer and related spirits with an emphasis on American sourced hops and trends. Although they seem to be an exploratory bunch, with all sorts of alcoholic ventures, our subject right now is their Botanical and Hoppy Gin.
Mikkeller Botanical and Hoppy Gin is a small-batch, artisan product, distilled by hand in a unique copper still located in Køge, Denmark. It is produced with Simcoe hops, which has a high bittering potential and is known for its aromatic qualities. The hops is combined with a carefully selected set of botanicals, which, when combined using a special technique, make a truly fine 70cl bottle of Gin. This, unique to Mikkeller Spirits process, gives this spirit an amazingly fresh aroma and taste.

What does Mikkeller Botanical and Hoppy Gin taste like?

The Flavour Spiral™ shows the most common flavours that you'll taste in Mikkeller Botanical and Hoppy Gin and gives you a chance to have a taste of it before actually tasting it.

We invented Flavour Spiral™ here at Flaviar to get all your senses involved in tasting drinks and, frankly, because we think that classic tasting notes are boring.

Few Gin Distillers Make Their Own Alcohol. Gin usually starts with neutral spirit: A commodity that in distillers buy in bulk. It’s what the distiller does with this commodity in the flavour-infusing process that makes each Gin different.

Tasting Notes

Appearance / Colour
Crystal clear.
Smell/ Nose/ Aroma
Carefully balanced with a full scent of Juniper berries making way for lemon grass and soft tones of angelica root.
Flavour/ Taste/ Palate
Smooth, rich feel. Very well balanced. A lemon zesty touch from the Simcoe Hops, a lemon zesty.
Deep, fresh and with notes of the hops.
A smooth and rich spirit, which can be used with mixers and can definitely be drunk alone. If you’re man enough that is.
